🚨❄️ Help Us Help You, Southampton! ❄️🚨

As the snow piles up, please take a few minutes to clear the snow and ice away from the fire hydrant near your home. In an emergency, every second counts—and a buried hydrant can slow critical fire response.

Make sure there’s at least 3 feet of clearance around the hydrant so our firefighters can access it quickly if needed.

A little shoveling today could make a life-saving difference tomorrow. Thank you for helping keep our community safe! ❤️🚒

SFD responded to a possible structure fire on July 18, 2025. Upon arrival crews discovered a slight smoke condition in the basement as well as an outdoor grill enclosure smoking. Upon further review the fire was contained to the grill enclosure only as seen in the photos. However, this could have been so much worse as the grill should never have been installed in this location. we would like to take this time to educate homeowners and contractors that many of these grills are being installed incorrectly and typically result in about 4-6 fires per year no that they are so popular. They must be installed in strict compliance with the manufactures installation instructions and not near combustible materials. We recommend they be at least 10ft away from the house, windows and not located under any building overhangs.
If have any concerns regarding any new or exiting installation please contact your local Building Department.

On Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 11:42 the Southampton Fire Department Heavy Rescue Squad was requested to the scene of an aided case by Southampton Village Ambulance where a child’s hand and arm became stuck inside an outdoor spa return drain scupper box.

Crews had to dismantle the spa from the top down to access the drain pipe. Using a variety of tools to carefully chip away the gunite, cut PVC piping, and remove a section of pip encasing the child’s hand, the team successfully completed the extrication in about an hour and the subject was transported to the hospital as a precaution by

These are not typical calls, but we train for the unknown or as we say “worst-case scenarios” so we are ready when the time comes and today was one of those times.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone with a pool, hot tub, spa, or indoor whirlpool or tub to inspect your scuppers, return drains, jets, or any other openings that could fit a hans, finger or even long hair please ensure they are properly secured with a screen or guard with small enough holes to prevent accidents like this from occurring.

If you have any concerns with your existing installations, please reach out to a reputable, licensed pool company or a plumber if inside the home for recommendations in helping you keep you, your family, and your friends safe.

5/13/25 SFD had been activated for a possible structure fire with an odor of smoke within the basement of a residential home. An obvious odor of plastic burning was present and this led us to do a methodical search of each room, appliance, electrical panels, hvac unit and all electrical devices within the area looking for the littlest clue while others are interviewing the occupants as to the events leading up them recognizing the smell. In this situation they stated they had just used the central vac prior to the odor being discovered. Which helped us direct some attention to the vacuum where you could observe some black soot on the white pipes, a small heat signature on the top of the unit housing and a slight smell of rubber burning.
The unit was removed and placed outside at which time we discovered the fan housing had sustained some heat damage as shown in the attached picture. All ended well. We go to great length to ensure your safety when we are called. Although this call appears simple in nature each odor call is a new adventure as no one call is the same as the last. We respond with all resources and manpower planning for the worst and hoping for the best as an odor could become much worse quickly.
Note: As a reminder! Never vacuum up ashes from your fire place even if you think they are cold as they have started fires. Instead remove the ashes by placing them in a metal can and soaking them in water. Never place the metal can on anything combustible and dispose of the ashes properly and safely.
