Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance

Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance The Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance was founded in 1993. Donations which come from our yearly fundraising efforts supplement our Village funds.

The Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance provides 24 hour emergency care and transport of sick and injured persons within the geographic boundaries of the Village of Southampton. The Department's origins date back to the 1950's when it was organized as a Veterans of Foreign Wars ambulance club. Prior to this time, ambulance service was provided by Southampton Hospital. 1994 marked certification

by the New York State Department of Health meeting the criteria of having an emergency medical technician on all calls along with required specialized equipment. In 1997, the Department came under the operational supervision and direction of the Village of Southampton, which also allowed the Village to use tax money for our operational funding. Currently the Department operates three New York State Department of Health certified Advanced Life Support (ALS) equipped ambulances, an ALS First Responder, and three Basic Life Support First Responders. The Department responds to roughly 800 emergency calls per year yielding in excess of 4000 volunteer hours. The Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance offers public CPR and First Aid classes which are offered at a minimal cost and taught by volunteer instructors. The department started this program after recognizing the importance of early CPR and wanted to open training to all members of the community. Please visit our CPR or First Aid pages for more information about this program. Our primary destination hospital is Southampton Hospital; however, while operating within Suffolk County and New York State EMS protocols we transport certain trauma, burn, or stroke patients to Peconic Bay Medical Center, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital or University Hospital at Stony Brook via ground ambulance or Suffolk County Police helicopter. In addition to our primary mission of emergency care, we also strive to provide other types of public service. One of our most recent initiatives to keep you and your family safe is our Community CPR program. Please visit our CPR page for more information. The Southampton Village Ambulance Service’s volunteer staff of over 100 members consists of New York State Certified Paramedics, Critical Care Technicians, and Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as several drivers. Several of our EMS members are also cross certified with the Southampton Fire Dept as Firefighter I with additional training in surface water rescue, ice rescue, heavy rescue, & emergency vehicle operations (EVOC & CEVO).

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As we spend time with family, friends, and community this Memorial Day weekend, we pause to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.

From all of us at Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance, we thank our fallen heroes and their families. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

As we begin EMS Week 2026, we recognize this year’s national theme: “Improving Outcomes, Together.”

This theme reflects what emergency services is truly about. Great outcomes are not the result of one person or one agency, they are the result of teamwork, preparation, communication, and multiple professionals working together toward one common goal.

Earlier this month, members of Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance were honored at the Suffolk Regional EMS Council CPR Save Awards alongside Southampton Village Police Officers involved in a cardiac arrest save that occurred earlier this year.

The incident highlighted every link in the chain of survival working exactly as intended.

In February, a patient suffered a cardiac arrest at Southampton Village Police Headquarters. Southampton Village Police Officers quickly recognized the emergency, immediately initiated high-quality CPR, and delivered an AED shock prior to EMS arrival. In the radio room, dispatchers could hear the incident and recognized CPR was in progress and quickly relayed critical information to responding SVVA units.

Upon arrival, SVVA crews continued advanced life support care, delivering multiple defibrillations and aggressive resuscitative measures while coordinating a difficult patient extrication from a confined second-floor bathroom, all while maintaining uninterrupted CPR and patient care.

This recognition was not simply about one call. It was about what can happen when dispatchers, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and emergency responders work seamlessly together with one goal: giving a patient the best possible chance at survival.

We are proud of everyone involved and proud to serve alongside our public safety partners every day.

Happy EMS Week to all EMS providers who continue working together to improve patient outcomes.

In March, the SVVA had such a great time visiting the amazing students at ! Our crew stopped by with one of our ambulances and our Polaris UTV to give the kids a hands-on look at the equipment we use to help keep our community safe.

The students got to explore the vehicles, learn about what we do, and even ask some fantastic questions. We hope we helped spark some curiosity—and maybe even inspired some future EMTs!

Thank you to The Children’s School for welcoming us—we loved spending the day with you! 🚑💚👏
