At approximately 12:28 PM Southampton Fire was alerted to a structure fire on Brickyard Rd. X1 responded along with Engine 3, Engine 4, and A1 with duty crew and call personnel.
On arrival crews found one of the walls and the roof in the rear of the home on fire. The fire originated on the back deck and climbed the walls and into the roof. The fire had extended behind the walls in second floor bedrooms. Fortunately there was a nearby hydrant so water supply was not an issue. Crews were able to quickly locate the hotspots in the walls and roof of the interior of the home and were able to contain it to those areas. The heat of the day made this a difficult fire but crews were quickly able contain the fire. All personnel on scene did an outstanding job working together. No injuries reported in this incident. The cause of the fire was determined by improper disposal of a cigarette.
We would like to thank Easthampton Fire Department, Westfield Fire Department, Holyoke Fire Department, 104th Fighter Wing Fire Dept, Northampton Fire Rescue for sending an ambulance for rehab, Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Fire Marshal, Massachusetts State Police fire investigation, Southampton Police Department-Massachusetts, and the Red Cross.
Please keep the family in your thoughts this evening. Again thank you to all our mutual aid partners for coming to assist.
