We heard that Rowan loves cars and that his favorite movie is The Fast and The Furious. On Saturday, we joined with other area agencies, car club members, and individuals who wanted to help wish Rowan a Happy Birthday by participating in his Drive Thru Birthday Car Show.

This week officers from our Training and Public Relations divisions attended the Military Demobilization Event at the Tennessee Army National Guard.

These service members will soon transition from active military duty to civilian life. Many of our officers are Veterans and Reservists so we know the value of the skills that these Veterans bring to law enforcement.

The 27th Annual American Working Dogs / Vohne Liche Kennels K9 Olympics & Certification Trials brought together 96 competitors with judges and teams representing 14 states and 3 countries.

The City will soon relocate our Police/Fire Training Center.

Mayor Musselwhite's official statement on this investment in public safety:
"The City has entered a contract with MZX Tech, LLC, an affiliate of SpacexAI, to relocate our former training center on Tulane Road to property on Swinnea Road just south of Stateline Road. This land swap deal will transfer ownership of the City’s 51-acre site in exchange for 69 acres of new land surrounding an existing 20-acre parcel of City property and $40 million to construct new facilities.

This is an unprecedented private investment in public safety facilities for our city, county, state and possibly country. Our former center’s facilities were functional, but not ideal, and this more centralized site will enhance efficiency with training operations. Furthermore, the funding will allow construction of new, cutting-edge facilities that will elevate the training of our professional public safety personnel and enhance recruitment efforts, solidifying the Southaven Police & Fire Departments’ elite capabilities for many years into the future."

*REMINDER*
The Railroad will be working on the Stateline crossing on Wed. Aug 19. Stateline Road between Horn Lake Rd and Hwy 51 will be closed except to local traffic from 8am Wednesday through 6am Thursday. No traffic will be allowed across the tracks.

Detour signs will be in place at Stateline and Horn Lake Rd. During this time period only, truck route enforcement in this area will be suspended. Proper truck routes will resume immediately upon opening of the roadway.

On Friday, we celebrated Detective Tim Yancey’s retirement. He received a plaque recognizing his years of service and members of his Investigative Services Unit presented him with a detective’s revolver.

Coworkers reminisced of his early days on patrol, thanked him for being a supportive mentor and boasted of his love for family. A common theme throughout the celebration was of Detective Yancey’s laid-back demeanor and easy going personality. While compassionate, he is also fierce and persistent. Detective Yancey spent the latter part of his career in Investigations, working tirelessly to seek justice for victims of crime.

Detective Yancey, we wish you the best in your retirement and THANK YOU for 23 years of service to our community.

Please be on the lookout for 17 year old Brayden Allen. He is a white male, 6’0” 155 lbs. with brown hair. Allen was last seen on 8/11/26 at Olive Garden in Southaven, MS wearing his Olive Garden uniform. He may be in the area of Horn Lake or possibly en route to Tupelo.
