Today I’m announcing my candidacy for the Massachusetts Democratic Party State Committee representing the Worcester-Hampden district. My part of the commonwealth has been forgotten by the Democratic Party for too long. We need leadership that will fight for all of our communities at all levels of government. The State Democratic Party has not once helped us since we lost our Democratic house and senate members. Now that we have a chairman of the party that is from Worcester county, now is the time to start rebuilding our Democratic bench by helping elect democrats into our local governments, encouraging young and marginalized persons to vote and get involved, and actually bringing results to our district. I look forward to getting to know everyone in the district over these next 8 months and fighting for better representation in our party!

As of right now, I am not committed either way on the Anti-Settlement resolution. My Jewish brothers & sisters are raising alarms about this resolution and we must take in their concerns but Carol Coakley and supporters also raise good points.

However, I will vote to support the Two State Peace resolution that was brought up as an alternative if it reaches the meeting floor on April 29th.

Later in the day, Jacquelyn Ryan, the first openly transgender elected official in Mass (she served on the Tantasqua School Committee), riled the crowd with her denouncements of Trump: “We’ve got a puppet for a president.” As for his cabinet: “He nominated an outright racist and an education secretary who is woefully unqualified,” Ryan said, referring to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, respectively.

As a Democratic state committee member, Ryan promised those in attendance that she hears their concerns and will fight for truth and justice.

“Where’s Charlie Baker?” someone in the crowd yelled, prompting others to join in a chorus, WHERE’S CHARLIE BAKER?

“We know where he is,” Ryan said. “He’s in Washington, DC working with his Republican cronies [at the National Governors Association meeting with Trump].”

I would like to congratulate Sec. Tom Perez on his victory as DNC Chair, while not my candidate I wish him and the Party luck in reengaging voters that we lost this election cycle.

It will be incumbent upon all members of the Democratic Party to address vigorously the concerns of Bernie Voters who make up half our party and who feel further disenfranchised by the Democratic Party because the leadership decision here today. As a Hillary Clinton voter, I understand now more then ever that we CANNOT take their votes for granted and we will need to fight for every single one of them going forward. I wish Perez and the DNC luck in that endeavor and I will fight for those voters in MA as a DSC member and proud Democrat.

I have had wonderful conversations with almost all of the candidates for The open Male DNC seat and I have made my decision after looking over my notes.

Let me first say the field of candidates we have is strong and shows how truly diverse the Democratic Party is. Any of them would make the Necessary reforms needed to make sure the Democratic Party is competitive in the 2018 and 2020 elections.

With that said, I am proud to announce my support for Melvin Poindexter for DNC! Melvin has been a strong advocate for the Democratic Party and for working within the party to advance our progressive policies and values. His experience as well as his plans to bring back Labor and young voters back into the Democratic Party fold make him uniquely qualified to serve our next DNC member.

While I backed Clinton in the Primary, and wouldn't of changed that decision even in hindsight, Melvin Backed Sanders and understands why Sanders was able to unite key democratic constituencies behind him that will be needed in the Democratic Party going forward. His values and experience make him the best candidate by far and I look forward to supporting him at the next meeting.

Thank you Santiago Nariño, Russ Ashton, Robert C**t and Ed Collins for putting your names on the ballot. It is not easy to run for something, but you are all running to better our party going forward and that is such an honorable thing. Good luck to everyone And I do ask again that you vote for Melvin Poindexter.

Congratulations Gus Bickford for being elected State Committee Chairman tonight winning 156 votes to Steve Kerrigan's 148 votes. I hope to work with you closely over the next four years to secure 4 new seats for Intersex and Gender Non-Conforming Individuals and look forward to you uniting our party in fighting back against Baker's corporate agenda.

Steve Kerrigan, I was proud to nominate you for chairman tonight. Your vision for building a party for the future, one that has our party fighting in republican districts for our values and candidates, is a plan that I know our party needs in this coming years. I know you will continue to fight for our party and I look forward to having you and Jacob as my guests at the electoral college.
