🚨 WELCOME BACK, JAKE WEBB! 🚒

Chief Normandin, the Town Manager, and Town Council have approved the return of Firefighter Jake Webb to the Southbridge Fire Department.

Jake recently left Southbridge Fire for Charlton, but has decided it was time to make his return to Southbridge.

We’re glad to have him back where he belongs.

🚒 **INCREDIBLE NEWS FOR THE SOUTHBRIDGE FIRE DEPARTMENT!** 🚒

I could not be prouder to announce that Lieutenant Wilson, Firefighter Edwards, and Firefighter Ryan Morton will all be recognized at the 37th Annual Firefighters of the Year Awards Ceremony on Monday, November 23rd at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

Lieutenant Wilson and Firefighter Edwards are being honored for their bravery and heroic actions during the tragic fire at 417 South Street. Faced with extremely difficult conditions, they went to work without hesitation and demonstrated the courage, professionalism, and commitment that define the Southbridge Fire Department.

Firefighter Ryan Morton is also being recognized for his quick actions while working at the Fire Academy when a member of the support team suffered a serious injury. Ryan immediately stepped up and assisted during a very difficult situation.

As Fire Chief, I cannot put into words how proud I am of all three of these firefighters. Their actions took place under very different circumstances, but each showed the same qualities, courage, composure, compassion, and a willingness to step forward when someone needed help.

To have three members of the Southbridge Fire Department recognized on the same day is truly something special and a tremendous honor for our entire department and community.

Please join me in congratulating Lt. Wilson, FF Edwards, and FF Morton on this well-deserved recognition!

🚒 SOUTHBRIDGE FIRE DEPARTMENT – INSPECTION SUCCESS! 🚑

We are proud to announce that the Southbridge Fire Department successfully completed today's annual Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) inspection with ZERO DEFICIENCIES! 👏

This accomplishment reflects the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of our entire department. Maintaining our ambulances, equipment, training, and operational readiness takes a tremendous amount of effort throughout the year.

A special recognition goes to our ALS Coordinator, Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Struppa, for his outstanding efforts in preparing for today's inspection. His attention to detail, organization, and commitment to ensuring everything was in order played an important role in this successful outcome.

To all our firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who contributed to this achievement, THANK YOU! Your continued dedication to providing quality emergency medical services to the residents of Southbridge does not go unnoticed.

Great job, everyone! Proud of this team! 🚒🚑

With a rare September nor'easter at our doorstep, now is a good time to finish up preparations.

Expect rain and gusty winds starting tonight evening and peaking Saturday into Sunday. With leaves still on the trees, downed branches and power outages are possible.

Before the storm: charge your phones, secure loose items outside, find your flashlights, and check your smoke and CO alarms. If the power goes out, keep generators outside and use flashlights instead of candles.

Check out the attached MEMA flyer for tips on making a plan, building a 3-5 day kit, and preparing your home, pets, and family members with medical needs. Head over to Mass.gov/Ready for more information.

MEDIA RELEASE – STRUCTURE FIRE

The Southbridge Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire involving a 1½-story home. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions extending along the rear of the residence and into the roof area.

A second alarm was transmitted, bringing additional personnel and resources to the scene. Firefighters advanced hose lines into the residence while Ladder 1 conducted ventilation operations. Crews were able to bring the main body of fire under control and conducted primary and secondary searches of the building.

The residence sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage. The Building Official responded to the scene and determined the residence to be uninhabitable pending necessary building and electrical repairs. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

The cause of the fire has been isolated to a wood pellet stove heating device.

As cooler nights arrive, the Southbridge Fire Department reminds residents to properly inspect and clean wood, pellet, and other heating appliances before placing them into service for the season. Chimneys, vents, and exhaust systems should also be inspected and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The Southbridge Fire Department would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel who assisted at the scene.

🍂🚒 BIG DAY AT AUTUMNFEST 2026! 🚒🍂

What a great day in Southbridge! The weather couldn’t have been better, and there was an awesome turnout for AutumnFest 2026!

Lt. Parrettie and Executive Assistant Stacey Renaud represented the Southbridge Fire Department at our table, spending the day talking with residents, families, and visitors and sharing information about our department. 🚒🔥

A big THANK YOU and congratulations to the Southbridge Business Partnership for organizing another great community event! It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to bring an event like this together, and today was a great example of what makes Southbridge such a strong community.

🍕🚒 A BIG THANK YOU TO AMERICAN FLATBREAD WORCESTER! 🚒🍕

Today, members of the Southbridge Fire Department were treated to lunch courtesy of American Flatbread Worcester as part of their new First Responder Friday program!

We were honored to be selected as the first recipient of this great community initiative recognizing local first responders. The food was fantastic, and the generosity was certainly appreciated by our members!

A special thank you to Cindy and the entire team at American Flatbread Worcester for thinking of our firefighters and for supporting the first responder community.

I also want to recognize our Executive Secretary, Stacey, who handled all of the arrangements and coordinated today's visit. Thank you, Stacey, for putting everything together and making it happen!

We truly appreciate businesses like American Flatbread that take the time to recognize and support first responders and the communities we serve.

🚒🔥 HIGH FIVE FRIDAY — SOUTHBRIDGE STYLE! ✋🙌

What a great way to start the day!

Members of the Southbridge Fire Department, Southbridge Police Department, and many other members of our community came together this morning to welcome the students of Southbridge Middle/High School for High Five Friday!

There were plenty of smiles, high fives, and Southbridge pride as our students headed into school! Events like this are a great reminder that being part of the Fire Department means more than responding to emergencies — it means being part of the community we proudly serve every day.

🔥 Fire & Life Safety Education in Our Community! 🚒

SAFE Coordinator Langevin and Firefighter Deso recently visited Little Seeds Learning Center to provide fire safety education to the children and staff.

The visit included a fire drill, emergency escape routes, and the importance of having a designated meeting place in the event of a fire.

Programs like this are an important part of the Southbridge Fire Department’s continued outreach to our community, teaching fire safety early and helping our youngest residents undrstand what to do during an emergency.

What a great day for Southbridge!

This morning, I had the honor and pleasure of welcoming fire and life safety educators from across the Commonwealth to the Wellsworth for the 31st Annual Fire & Life Safety Education Conference!

After being held at another location last year, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome this conference BACK TO SOUTHBRIDGE! For many years, our community has proudly hosted this statewide event, and having everyone return this year truly feels like welcoming old friends back home.

It’s always a great feeling to see firefighters, educators, and fire service professionals from communities across Massachusetts coming together right here to learn, share ideas, and continue the important work of keeping our residents and communities safe.

As Fire Chief, I’m especially proud that our town continues to be a place where people from across the Commonwealth can come together for events like this.

Welcome back to Southbridge! I'm proud to have you here, proud of our community, and excited to once again be your host! 🚒🔥
