Following this morning’s tragic and fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis, the Center for North Carolina Politics & Public Service and the North Carolina Network for Fair, Safe & Secure Elections—a member of The Carter Center’s Democracy Resilience Network—urges dialogue between state and federal authorities to defuse tensions in a volatile environment and protect the rights and safety of every Minnesotan.

To restore public trust, ensure accountability, and de-escalate an increasingly tense environment, a full, transparent, and fact-based investigation should be conducted collaboratively by state and federal authorities.
