Call for Entries: 575 | Recognition

Red Springs Artspace is pleased to announce a juried art exhibition celebrating the Lumbee Tribe’s historic full federal recognition as the 575th tribe.

After a 137-year journey, we congratulate our Lumbee neighbors — the People of the Dark Water and the largest tribe east of the Mississippi.

Exhibition: June 24 – July 8, 2026

Theme: Works must center on Lumbee stories, culture, or experiences (figurative or abstract)

Jurors:
• Nancy Strickland Chavis, Director and Curator of the Museum of the Southeast American Indian at UNC Pembroke
• Harlen Chavis Jr., Lumbee Tribe Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) and artist

Deadline: May 25, 2026

Opening reception this Friday!

Ben Owen III and Barbara Burlingame have been invited to be guest artists for an exhibition at the Arts Council of Moore County Southern Pines, NC beginning May 1st-May 29th.

A special reception will be held on May 1st 6-8pm and open to the public. Come visit the gallery for a fun evening! For more info, go to the Campbell House Gallery of the ACMC website.
