Rope Rescue Technician Training!

The Southfield Fire Department recently hosted a Rope Rescue Technician course, bringing together SFD firefighters and firefighters from departments throughout the Metro Detroit area.

This specialized training provides firefighters with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to safely and effectively perform technical rope rescues in challenging environments.

Training alongside our regional partners strengthens our skills, enhances teamwork, and improves our ability to respond to complex rescue incidents.

Thank you to all the firefighters and departments who participated!

Southfield Fire Department Participates in Mass Casualty Incident Training

Members of the Southfield Fire Department participated in the OAKWAY EMS Active Shooter/Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Drill at Pine K**b.

This multi-agency training exercise provided first responders with an opportunity to strengthen coordination, communication, and emergency medical response during a large-scale incident involving multiple patients.

Training alongside our mutual aid partners helps ensure we are prepared to respond quickly, efficiently, and safely when our communities need us most.

Thank you to OAKWAY EMS and all participating agencies for their commitment to training and preparedness!

Congratulations to Battalion Chief James Bunker for graduating from Eastern Michigan University’s School of Fire Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program! This 9-month program challenges the students through over 400 hours of coursework with the goal of honing their skills and preparing them to become the next generation of executive fire officers. Thank you for your dedication and hard work to improve the service we provide to our community.

Fun fact: Pictured to the left of BC Bunker is his father, James, who retired from the SFD in 2005 also holding the rank of Battalion Chief.

Progress is underway!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at four new Sutphen fire engines currently in production for the Southfield Fire Department!

These photos show the apparatus in the middle of the build process as they continue taking shape. Once completed, these new engines will strengthen SFD’s frontline fleet and help ensure our firefighters have modern, reliable equipment to safely and effectively serve the Southfield community.
