Our State and Local Union would like to thank State Senator Darrin Camilleri, State Representative Tulio Liberati (representing northern Southgate), and State Representative Rylee Linting (representing southern Southgate) for meeting with the Southgate Professional Fire Fighters Union President earlier this June. Each elected official took time out of their schedule to discuss critical issues facing our members and citizens. Key topics of discussion included:

SB 319: Fire Fighter Recruitment, Retention, and Safe Staffing
HB 5232: Paid Military Leave for Fire Fighters
HB 5952: PTSD Presumption and Mental Health Protections for First Responders
Upcoming firefighter cancer screenings, equipment needs, and various other critical issues.

This valuable opportunity was made possible through the dedicated advocacy of the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union.

Additionally, we would like to extend our gratitude to Representative Rylee Linting for stopping by the station for a tour with our crew following the Heritage Day parade.

Congratulations to this year’s recipient of the Southgate Professional Firefighters Local 1307 Future Heroes Scholarship, Priscilla Arnold!

Yesterday, we had the honor of presenting the scholarship to Priscilla, a graduating high school senior who has already shown a strong dedication to serving others through her enrollment in a Firefighter/EMT vocational program. She plans to continue pursuing a career in Fire & EMS, and we are proud to support her as she takes the next step toward becoming one of the future heroes of our profession.

We wish Priscilla the very best of luck and look forward to seeing all she accomplishes in the fire service! 🚒👏

A letter from the Southgate Professional Firefighters Union Local 1307 president in regards to the Southgate American House fire.

Last night, Southgate Fire Department responded to a large fire at American House on Allen Road. Thanks to the quick actions and teamwork of multiple agencies, all residents were safely evacuated and accounted for.

We’d like to extend our sincere appreciation to the neighboring fire departments who provided mutual aid and manpower, the Southgate Police Department for assisting with evacuation efforts, EMS crews for on-scene medical support, the American Red Cross for assisting displaced residents, and the American House staff for their calm and coordinated response.

Our thoughts are with the residents who were displaced and affected by this incident. We understand how difficult this situation is, and we commend the resilience shown by the residents, their families, and the staff during a very challenging time.

This incident demonstrated the strength of our Downriver mutual aid departments and the dedication of all involved. Thank you to everyone who played a role in ensuring the safety of our community.

On this day, we honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 – and pay tribute to the fire fighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

We will never forget.
