REP. POULOS ANNOUNCES $250K FOR SOUTHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL LOCKER ROOM IMPROVEMENTS
SOUTHINGTON — State Rep. Chris Poulos (D-Southington) announced today that $250,000 in state funding is expected to be approved to rebuild the athletic locker rooms at Southington High School.
The project was brought forward by the Southington BKF Gridiron Booster Club, which met with Rep. Poulos and presented a detailed proposal outlining the need for state assistance.
“I was happy to help the Booster Club advocate for this project,” said Rep. Poulos. “They identified a need, put together a thoughtful proposal, and asked for my help. I advocated with legislative leadership and the Governor’s Office, and I’m proud that we were able to deliver this funding for Southington students.”
The funding — which is on the State Bond Commission’s agenda and expected to be approved on Sept. 8 — will support improvements to both the boys and girls locker rooms, with the goal of bringing both facilities to an equal standard of safety, cleanliness, functionality and quality. The proposal includes $150,000 for more extensive renovations to the boys locker room and $100,000 for improvements and preservation of the girls locker room.
Jerad Paolino of the Southington BKF Gridiron Booster Club thanked Rep. Poulos for his support and advocacy.
“We are extremely grateful to Rep. Poulos for listening to our concerns, taking the time to meet with us, and advocating for this project,” said Paolino. “The Booster Club brought forward a detailed proposal because we believe our student-athletes deserve safe, functional and well-maintained facilities. Chris took our request seriously and worked to help make this funding a reality.”
State Rep. Ron Napoli, Jr. (D-Waterbury), chair of the subcommittee of the State Bond Commission, also praised Rep. Poulos for his work securing the funding.
“I was proud to work with Rep. Chris Poulos to help secure $250,000 in state funding for the Town of Southington to rebuild its locker room facilities,” said Napoli. “Investments like this strengthen our local communities and ensure residents, students and athletes have safe, modern facilities they can be proud of. I want to commend Representative Poulos for his advocacy and persistence in getting this important project across the finish line.”
Rep. Poulos also thanked Governor Ned Lamont, Speaker Matt Ritter and Majority Leader Jason Rojas for their support in securing the funding.
“This is a great example of what can happen when the community brings forward a good idea and we work together to make it happen,” said Poulos. “I’m proud to deliver this investment for our student-athletes.”
