The Southington Board of Education has requested a budget increase of $8.1 million in new spending, a 6.71% increase over the current budget.

The Town Manager’s budget includes $5.5 million in new spending, which represents a 10.4% increase.

Many residents are asking the same question: How much can homeowners realistically afford?

Here’s a simple way to estimate what your new property tax bill could look like if these budget requests move forward without changes:

Formula:
Take your NEW property assessment × 24.54 ÷ 1000

Example:
New assessment: $375,000
$375,000 × 24.54 ÷ 1000 = $9,202.50

This is a quick way to estimate your potential property tax based on the estimated new mill rate.
