🎓 Need community service hours? We have an opportunity for you!
High school students, this one is for you!

United Way of Southington is looking for volunteers age 15+ to help staff our beverage booth at the Apple Harvest Festival.

You’ll get to spend a few hours at one of Southington’s biggest community events while earning volunteer hours and helping a local nonprofit.

Volunteers will help sell soft drinks and water, provide customer service, and take cash and credit card payments. Seats are available, and shifts range from 2.5 to 4 hours.

Important: Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult age 18+.

Bring a parent, grandparent, older sibling, teacher, coach or another adult and volunteer together!

🕰️ Take a Look Back Tuesday 🕰️

This piece of Southington history is brought to you by Super Suds Southington

The 1960s were a decade of massive change in America — the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, the moon landing, the Beatles, the first Super Bowl, and the debut of Star Trek. With so much happening on the national stage, it's easy to imagine local community needs got a little less attention.

Here in Southington, while many Community Chests across the country shifted to a "United Fund" payroll deduction model, Southington Community Chest stuck with tradition — going door-to-door for "fair share" donations and leaning on local business leaders for support. 🏘️

It wasn't easy. Fundraising targets grew a staggering 83% over the decade, and when the Chest couldn't keep pace, tough budget cuts followed — impacting beloved local programs like the Southington YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the Salvation Army's summer recreation programs for kids.

But the story didn't end there. In the 1970s, Family Services expanded thanks to support from United Way of Southington — proof that this community has always found a way to show up for its neighbors, even through hard times. 💛

🍎 Volunteer at the Apple Harvest Festival with United Way!

We need volunteers to help staff the United Way of Southington Beverage Booth during this year’s Apple Harvest Festival!

It’s a fun, easy way to spend a few hours serving your community while enjoying the festival atmosphere. Volunteers will:

• Provide friendly customer service
• Sell soft drinks and water
• Take cash and credit card payments
• Help keep the beverage booth running smoothly

Volunteers must be age 15 or older. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult age 18+.

Shifts range from 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on the day. Seats are available, although volunteers will do some walking between the checkout table and the beverage storage area.

And there’s a bonus: United Way of Southington receives a portion of the beverage booth proceeds from the Apple Harvest Festival Committee when proceeds are available. The amount varies from year to year, and there is no guaranteed payout, but every volunteer helps us make the most of this opportunity!

🚲 Help Us Keep United We Ride Rolling! 🚲

We think United We Ride is going to be a blast. But we need your help to make it happen!

We’ve extended the registration deadline through August 31, and we need at least 2 more teams to sign up to hold the race at this year’s Southington Apple Harvest Festival.

If you remember United Way of Southington’s popular Bed Race, this is our new, easier-to-manage take on that tradition. Four-person teams race adult tricycles, raise funds for United Way of Southington, and keep the tricycle after the race!

**Take a look at United Way of Greater Waterbury's race this year to get an idea of what it will be like.**

We provide and build the trikes with your registration fee, so there’s:
🚲 No mattress to find or modify
🚲 No wheels to attach
🚲 No bulky bed to transport
🚲 And no mattress to figure out what to do with afterward!

Just bring your team, your enthusiasm, and your fundraising spirit and get ready to race.
