Southington Fire Dept Engine Company #5

Southington Fire Dept Engine Company #5 No longer a volunteer station, Engine Co. 5 is located on River Street just a short distance from both Thalberg Elementary School and Queen Street.

The Southington Fire Department (SFD) is a combination paid/volunteer fire department which serves the Town of Southington CT. The department is divided into five companies housed in four fire stations. In 2009, the volunteer, paid-on-call force was reorganized into part-time regular employees. Engine Company Five is located in the north end of Southington. We are at 72 River Street. When called out, they respond with Squad 5.

FF Carl Sherman made a lot of young men who they are today, through his fire training and his many life lessons. He would have no idea the impact he made on so many lives. May he continue to rest in peace.

January 4, 2005 - LODD
Firefighter Carl E. Sherman, 66
Southington Fire Department. Southington, Connecticut
Firefighter Sherman participated in a monthly fire department drill. The drill involved SCBA training activity at the fire station from 1930hrs through 2110hrs. The training consisted of repeatedly donning and doffing SCBAs, and of basic maintenance procedures. The training session ended and firefighters returned to their homes. At 2315hrs, an ambulance was called to the home of Firefighter Sherman. Firefighter Sherman's wife had found him unresponsive in his bed. He was transported to the hospital and admitted to the emergency room. He was diagnosed as suffering from cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 0025hrs on January 4, 2005.

Our hearts are heavy today for the Plainville Fire Department, as they mourn the loss of a member who made the ultimate sacrifice while operating at a house fire earlier this morning.

Responding on the initial alarm, Southington FD remains at the scene as operations continue.

We stand in solidarity with PFD as they navigate this profound tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the fallen firefighter’s family, loved ones, and the entire department.

She was the widow of one of our charter members, Captain Clifford Albert and mother of past member Keith G Albert

Just like other charter members wives, she was a huge asset to the company in their early years.

She will be greatly missed.
