Hurricane and summer storm season is here ⛈️

Eversource will be using helicopters to inspect high-voltage power lines across several communities in north central CT. These routine patrols help crews find and fix issues like tree branches that could cause power outages 🔌 This is a critical part of the energy company’s storm preparedness efforts!

Governor Ned Lamont joined us at the American Legion right here on Main Street this morning to celebrate the release of $50,000 in state funding for the restoration of the Southington Veterans Memorial, and also recognized the Southington Veterans Committee for their key role in shaping the "Heroes Act," a new law expanding vital benefits for veterans.

Veterans Committee Chairwoman Rachel Wache, and Committee member Joe Della Porta were invited to speak at the podium.

PAVING UPDATE

Tilcon began paving the following areas on July 28:

Canterbury Lane, Sunset Ridge Drive and Savage Street.

Work is expected to take approximately 1 to 2 weeks.

Tilcon has also begun road work operations on Elliot Drive that should continue for several days.

UPDATE: ADDITIONAL TRANSFER STATION HOURS THIS WEEK

The Town is extending brush-only collection to Friday, July 10, 2026 from 7:00AM to 2:00PM.

🌳 STORM DEBRIS CLEANUP UPDATE 🌳

Following the significant damage caused by the recent 4th of July storm, the Town of Southington is opening the Transfer Station for special hours to assist residents with cleanup.

If you have fallen branches and yard debris, here is what you need to know:

🍂 SPECIAL BRUSH-ONLY DAYS
📅 When: Wednesday, July 8th & Thursday, July 9th
⏰ Hours: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
⚠️ Please note: These mid-week hours are strictly for brush only. Regular household items, recycling, and other items will NOT be accepted during these times.

♻️ REGULAR SATURDAY OPERATIONS
📅 When: Saturday, July 11th
⏰ Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
✅ The Transfer Station will be open for full operations and will accept all standard materials as usual.

🔊OFFICIAL UPDATE: Federal Flood Survey Study Grant Secured

State Representative Chris Poulos, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, Town Engineer David Nourse, myself, and Commissioner of Transportation Garrett Eucalitto had the pleasure to speak on this federal grant of $275,625 in efforts to advance flood mitigation efforts in the downtown Plantsville area.

This study marks a significant milestone in mitigating local flooding to enhance public safety and reinforce municipal infrastructure🛣️

Today the Southington community had the privilege to welcome home WWII Technical Sergeant Donald Arthur Dorman🇺🇸

At 21 years young, his stories and legacy remind us of the incredible bravery and sacrifices made so many decades ago

Seeing him brought home to be buried is a powerful reminder that our fallen are never forgotten, no matter the amount of time that passes.

May he rest in peace at Oak Hill Cemetery.
