This week, Southington Fire Department duty-shifts and members of Company 2 conducted extensive rural water supply training.

Approximately 15% of our community is not protected by a municipal water system, requiring firefighters to rely on alternative water sources such as tanker shuttles, ponds, streams, and dry hydrants during fire suppression operations.

Training focused on water shuttle operations, portable tank deployment, drafting techniques, and establishing reliable water supplies in areas without hydrant access. These skills are critical to ensuring an uninterrupted water supply during large or prolonged incidents and help maintain the level of fire protection our residents expect, regardless of location.
