Two hundred forty-nine years ago today, America adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of a new nation. Our flag stands as a beacon of freedom to people around the world—a symbol of the God-given rights, opportunities, and self-government that define our nation.

The responsibility of county government is to serve taxpayers, not subsidize political activity. Commissioner Alisa Simmons recently sought to hold what were described as evening town hall meetings, all scheduled between now and the November election, while requesting that Tarrant County waive the associated costs for after-hours staffing and security. Regardless of how an event is labeled to disguise its true purpose, taxpayers should not be expected to bear the expense of activities that primarily benefit an elected official's political profile or campaign efforts. Her request was denied.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of welcoming guests to the Tarrant Transportation Summit, an event started by Gary Fickes. Commissioner Matt Krause and the Tarrant Regional Transportation Coalition did a great job bringing together stakeholders to discuss the future of Tarrant County. Commissioner Manny Ramirez, the incoming president of the TRTC, provided great insights as a panelist. We are ready to meet the challenges of future growth.

Bravo, Llano County!

Yesterday, The Tarrant County Commissioners Court passed a resolution celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary and acknowledging America’s Judeo-Christian founding. My opponent, Alisa Simmons, declined to support the resolution, claiming it was not “inclusive,” refusing to celebrate America without getting to add her own progressive spin on our history.

The core purpose of the Tarrant County Commissioners Court is pretty straightforward: serve the people of Tarrant County through strong fiscal management, lower crime, open access to courts, and better governance. This Court has focused on cutting taxes, improving county services, strong public safety, and bettering the lives of our citizens.

It is not the business of this Court to put the county's name and seal behind a divisive social agenda that glorifies a group that supports transitioning children. Our responsibility is to protect children, not sacrifice them in the name of ideological advocacy. Commissioner Simmons’ proposed resolution divides the very residents we are all here to serve, and that’s why I voted no.
