Arrest for Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle

Southmayd, Texas – On June 6, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Officer Hall attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 56 within the city limits of Southmayd.

After Officer Hall turned around and activated his emergency lights, the driver continued westbound on Highway 56 before making an abrupt turn onto McElroy Street and then another abrupt turn onto Belknap Street in an apparent attempt to evade the traffic stop. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop near the intersection of Belknap Street and Old Southmayd Road.

During the subsequent investigation, the driver admitted that he was attempting to avoid being stopped and stated that he was unsure whether Officer Hall had observed him turn off Highway 56.

The driver was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle. The vehicle was inventoried and released to Frank's Towing. Officer Benitez remained with the vehicle while Officer Hall transported the subject to jail without incident.

Arrest for Driving While Intoxicated

Southmayd, Texas — On June 3, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Officer Shipman conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without headlights illuminated on State Highway 289 within the City of Southmayd.

During the investigation, the driver exhibited several indicators consistent with alcohol impairment and admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening. The driver declined to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Based on the totality of the circumstances observed during the traffic stop, Officer Shipman placed the driver under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Following the arrest, a search warrant was obtained for the collection of a blood specimen, which was subsequently collected by qualified medical personnel at a local medical facility.

The vehicle was impounded, and the driver was transported to the Grayson County Jail, where he was booked without incident.

Major Motor Vehicle Accident Investigation

On June 1, 2026, the Southmayd Police Department responded to a major motor vehicle accident at the intersection of FM 902 and Bradshaw Road within the City of Dorchester.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to assist with the incident and the safe clearance of the roadway, including the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, Grayson County Fire Marshal's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Howe Fire Department, Gunter Fire Department, Tom Bean Fire Department, and Sherman EMS.

Preliminary investigation indicates that an 18-wheeler lost control, left the roadway, and overturned. The driver of the commercial vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The roadway was closed for approximately three and a half hours while emergency responders worked the scene and conducted the initial investigation.

The Southmayd Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic incident. We ask the public to keep all those involved in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The accident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available for release at this time.

MAJOR ACCIDENT ALERT

The Southmayd Police Department is currently working a major motor vehicle accident at the intersection of FM 902 and Bradshaw Road in the City of Dorchester.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies are on scene working to investigate the crash, and safely clear the roadway. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while first responders continue their efforts.

Traffic delays are expected, and portions of the roadway may remain closed for an extended period of time.
