Friends of the Library Southport & Oak Island Provides information about the FOLSOI's activities and programs and offers suggestions for all ages. Come and shop!

Friends of the Library Southport & Oak Island (FOLSOI) is a non profit organization that provides financial and operational support to the Southport and Oak Island libraries to enable them to remain vibrant assets to our community. We are a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the libraries, promoting reading, and inspiring children to discover the joy of books. Through membership suppor

t, we help the libraries improve their collections and keep their supplies and equipment current. In addition to memberships, our used book sales raise funds for our libraries. The “Once More Bookstore” (located at Southport Realty, 727 N Howe St) is open Mon - Fri from 1:00 - 3:00 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 - Noon.

September--back to school for kids! Back at Barbee Library, there are lot of creative activities for kids this month. How about some Bookworm Bingo??!

Join us for a fun, themed bingo game every third Thursday for kids in grades 2-6. Multiple winners will receive cool prizes, and everyone will have the opportunity to check out new books that go with the monthly theme!

Tomorrow is the FOLSOI Annual Meeting & Membership Appreciation Event "A Royal Engagement with the Queen of Beach Reads": Mary Kay Andrews, at 1:00pm at the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street.

Tonight, Nancy Fultz of Southport and her guest are enjoying a dinner with Mary Kay Andrews at Joseph's Italian Bistro. Erika Dosher, branch manager at Barbee Library, pulled the winning raffle ticket.

Thank you to everyone who supported FOLSOI’s fundraiser for the “Barbee Library Expansion Project” by purchasing raffle tickets online, at the Once More Bookstore, or in one of our library branches!

Thanks to our creative shelvers, you’ll find a new display devoted entirely to books with animals in the title or theme. It’s considerably easier than spotting wildlife in the woods and far less likely to involve mosquitoes.

Come browse the herd, flock, pod or pride - whatever the collective noun is for a pile of good animal books - and adopt one before they all wander off.
