Today, WMTRT Director Daryl Springman and Chief John Kadlewicz of the Holyoke Fire Department received delivery of our New Truck 11.

This truck will contain WMTRT District 1’s rope rescue and confined space equipment for our Western Mass Regional Team. This F-650 super crew with a custom body, has both exterior storage, for quick access, and interior walk in storage.

Huge thank you to Western Region Homeland Security Advisory Council for the continued support and funding to purchase this long over due resource. This will replace our first team funded vehicle, which we were able to push well past its service life. Having a reliable vehicle for our responses, is safe for the communities we serve and our members responding.

Thank you to the Holyoke Fire Department and Chief Kadlewicz for hosting this truck and equipment at their Station 5 on Whitings Farm Road. Holyoke is a neutral location within the Route 91 and Interstate 90 corridor making it a prime location for responding to incidents.

Thank you to Director Springman and Deputy Director Jason Saunders for helping to secure the funding and building out this truck to fit our growing needs.

Team members will be working over the next week on getting it in service and ready to respond, stand by for updates on the process!

Well done Westfield Fire Department, solid work!

🚨 Water Rescue Update: 3/21 🚨
Earlier this morning, the Westfield Fire Department successfully executed a swift water rescue in the area of 1100 Russell Road.
Upon arrival, our crews encountered an individual in the water and made numerous attempts to guide them through a self-extrication. However, due to the steep banks, slippery terrain, and freezing water temperatures, a hands-on rescue became necessary.
While the Western Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team was initially activated for support, our crews were able to safely reach and extricate the victim before their arrival. As a result, the specialized tech team was canceled once the scene was secured and the individual was safe.
We want to commend our firefighters for their skill and precision in handling these dangerous conditions. Please stay cautious and keep a safe distance from fast-moving water—conditions are often much more deceptive than they look!
