We couldn’t help but notice… the Easter Egg Hunt was missing this year

Those are the kind of traditions that stick with you so it got us thinking.

If the Southwick Civic Fund were to bring it back next year, what would YOU want it to look like?

* Good Friday?
* Saturday before Easter?
* Maybe even the weekend before?

We’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and what works best for your families.

Drop a comment below if we do this, we want to do it right and make it something special for the kids .

Yes, there is an $11 donation collected at the door. We’ve had some questions about kids and food, so we’ll also have hamburgers and hot dogs available along with french fries. When you sign up, just drop us a quick note.

Thanks again for all the support.

******* Good Friday Supper ******** A Table for the Community.

In a town like Southwick, some buildings hold more than history .. they hold generations of memories.

Long before cell phones and busy schedules, the little church at 222 College Highway was one of those places where neighbors gathered. For more than two centuries, families walked through its doors for worship, weddings, suppers, and community meals. The Methodist congregation in Southwick dates back to the early 1800s, when just a handful of members began meeting together a tradition that continued here for over 200 years. (christianitydaily.com)

And like many old New England churches, the fellowship hall saw just as much life as the sanctuary. Strawberry suppers, church dinners and those simple evenings where people pulled up a chair and stayed awhile.

A couple of years ago, the Southwick Civic Fund was fortunate enough to give this historic place a new chapter. But we’ve always believed the spirit of the building should remain the same neighbors gathering, sharing a meal, and keeping a little bit of old Southwick alive.

So this Good Friday, April 3rd, we’re bringing back a tradition.

A classic Fish Fry, served in the same place where generations before us once gathered for supper.

Nothing fancy. Just good food, good people, and a small nod to the many hands and hearts that filled that building over the years.

If you remember the old days, we hope it brings back a memory or two.
And if you don’t well, this is a good way to start a new tradition.

With Meals on Wheels not running Monday, if any Southwick seniors need medications picked up, a warm meal, or a driveway cleared, please reach out. Around here, we look out for our neighbors. Let’s make sure everyone’s taken care of.

Merry Christmas from the Southwick Civic Fund 🎄

Today we put together 148 meals that went out through Southwick, Tolland, and Granville.

Small crew. Tight crew. And as usual, they worked absolute wonders.

It’s funny people talk about training volunteers. Truth is, this is how you learn the work. Hands-on. Side by side. Like the old days. You show up, you pitch in, you figure it out together. And today we had so many familiar faces from the Thanksgiving push that everything just clicked. They make it easier. They make it better.

We also had a lot of new faces today… which usually means future volunteers in the making.

We don’t meet once a week.
We don’t meet at a bar.
I guess we meet by phone.
A quick text. A “here’s the date.” A “can you make it?”

And somehow, it always works.

There are a lot of special people in this town who quietly make things work for all of us. Today was a good reminder of that.

We’re pretty sure we’re done with events for just a little while now time to recharge, catch our breath, and get ready for spring.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. 🤍

Here’s a little video from last night’s hay wagon Christmas caroling
We did this a couple years back on a cold, cold night… so cold that last year we collectively decided to sit one out. I think everyone was still numb.

Last night? Much better temps. That said, after about an hour and a half in the area we covered, the consensus was clear we had given it all we had.
So naturally, we’re already thinking ahead.

Next year’s idea: maybe three wagons, possibly even four, splitting the town into sections so no one’s left guessing when we’re coming through. There are even apps that allow real-time tracking, so folks aren’t standing outside wondering where we are. That’s on our list to explore.

Of course, everything comes with a price.
Autumn Mist Farms generously donates the wagons, we’ve have plenty of trucks and volunteers but once you add police details into the mix which you do need for safety ,it means a little fundraising would be needed to make it all work. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

To everyone who caught us last night — Merry Christmas.
We saw a whole lot of smiling faces, and it looked like a few houses may have already been mid-party when we rolled through.

Stay tuned. As always, the Civic Fund will adjust, regroup, and keep finding ways to make Southwick a little more enjoyable…
Old Southwick, that is.
…you know what we mean.
