Honoring Law Enforcement During National Police Week
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy established May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. This observance, created by a joint resolution of Congress, serves to honor the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.
Each year, during National Police Week, communities across the United States pause to remember these fallen heroes and to acknowledge the profound loss experienced by their families, friends, and fellow officers.
Every law enforcement officer understands the risks inherent in their profession. Yet, they put on their uniforms, fasten their duty belts, and head out on patrol, ready to face whatever challenges may arise. This courage and dedication are a vital investment in the safety and well-being of our communities, and it is this commitment that National Police Week was established to recognize.
We encourage the residents of Spanish Fork to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to the law enforcement officers who serve our city. By engaging in conversation with them, we can show our appreciation for their service and honor the sacrifices they make.
To all who wear the badge, this week is dedicated to you. We recognize the bravery you demonstrate every day as you patrol our streets, safeguard our neighborhoods, and respond to calls for service, driven by your unwavering commitment to keeping us safe. We deeply appreciate your sacrifices, and we will never forget those who have died in the line of duty.
May you all be kept safe.
