Bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Department

Bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Department We are a non profit Organization that provides Fire, Rescue, and Medical services to our community and other local areas in which we serve.

Bluestone Valley Fire Department is located in Spanishburg, West Virginia and founded on June 11, 1993. Our commitment to the community is to prevent and extinguish fires and to protect the lives of the residents and visitors of our community while preserving their property. Since then, times have changed and many members have come and gone but our commitment to the community is as strong as it wa

s when we started. We are neighboring departments with Athens, East River, Matoaka, and Ghent. When called, we work closely with these departments and they do the same for ours. While we have a rather large coverage area, most of our area is rural with a few miles of I-77 being covered in Mercer County. Through the past, we feel we have made a positive impact on the community and plan to carry that tradition on into the future. We are currently accepting applications for new membership. While previous training is great, it is not required as we will provide members with all the training and gear needed at no cost to the member. If you think you have what it takes and are interested in giving back to your community feel free to contact one of our officers below. You can also come to one of our regular meetings on Sunday’s at 5:00 pm to meet with one of our officers. At Bluestone Valley, we believe the best way to save lives and protect property is through fire prevention. If you are a resident or business owner and would like us to come by and visit you, please contact us at one of the numbers below or contact us through Facebook messenger. We would be glad to do a pre-plan for you or assist you with escape routes and fire prevention. This will provide you with information so you will know what to do, should your home or business ever catch fire. As we approach our 28th year of service, the future looks bright but also challenging. Through our members and the community we will continue to work towards new goals and provide the best services possible. Chief: Ashley Brewster (304)960-1349

Assistant Chief: Dwight Dunford (304)320-1571

Captain : Craig Flanigan (304)888-6070

They went over the functions of how the Tram operates, safety features, and how to perform rescues from the tram. Thank you, Pipestem Volunteer Fire Department, for the invite; we look forward to the next one.

These past couple of weekends, we have had a few of our members attend the Sissonville fire school to sharpen their skills in rope rescue. Two of our members took the class for a refresher (Dwight Dunford and Dustin Dunford), and one of our members attended as a newly certified rope rescue technician (Nick Fields). We also had two members take a wilderness search and rescue class and a swift water awareness class (Kody Smith and Nick Fields).
