The Officers and members of the Butler VFC are mourning the Line Of Duty Death of Baltimore City Fire Department, Lt Mark Dranbauer Jr.

May he rest in peace

From Lt Dranbauer’s Family:

On Monday May 12, 2025, 44-year-old Lieutenant Mark Dranbauer Jr., a 23-year veteran of the Baltimore City Fire Department, suffered a medical emergency while serving the people of Baltimore City.

It is with great sadness that we were made aware that the injuries suffered are too catastrophic to sustain life. As such, Lt. Dranbauer has elected to continue to save lives. He is currently on life support, allowing time for his organs to be carefully prepared for donation, in accordance with his selfless wishes. Even after death, Lt. Dranbauer continues to think of others as his tissues and organs will be donated and will save an estimated 70 lives.

Mark is survived by his son, James, his parents Mark and Robin Dranbauer, his sister Kate Smith, and his nephew Gabriel Smith and niece Raelynn Smith. Mark was beyond loved and is also survived by countless cousins, relatives, and, of course, his brothers and sisters of the Baltimore City Fire Department

On April 15th at 15:39, Station 49 was alerted for a tree down on wires. Tanker Support Unit 491 responded with two personnel to the cross streets of Falls Road and Mount Zion Road in a 49-16 box. Upon arrival, units staged a safe distance from the live power lines and active fire on the ground. Tanker Support 491 preemptively called for BGE and a brush unit. Brush 858 out of Upperco Volunteer Fire Company responded with two personnel. BGE quickly shut off the power to the lines and crews from 49 and 85 began extinguishing the fire. After evaluating the ground coverage, no additional hot spots were found and crews went in service.
