Food Bank of Northern Nevada

Food Bank of Northern Nevada Healthy Food. Every Person. Every Day. Serving more than 160,000 people each month. Your Community. Your Food Bank. Volunteer. Donate. Advocate. Make a Difference.

Established in 1983, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada has served the community for more than 40 years and is northern Nevada's only food bank. We are a proud member of Feeding America, the nation's network of 200 food banks. Working closely with a network of 155 partner organizations across our vast 90,000 square mile service area, we serve 13 Nevada counties, as well as 10 counties on the ea

stern slope of the Sierra in California. Each month, we serve an average of 153,000 people. Last year, the Food Bank provided more than 19 million meals to neighbors facing hunger, nearly half of whom were children and seniors. In addition to the non-perishable canned goods many envision when they think of a food bank, we have a strong focus on providing the guests we serve with access to fresh fruits and vegetables and other nutritious foods needed for putting healthy meals on the table. Visit our website to explore more ways you can get involved in the fight against hunger throughout the year.

It's hard to believe it's already been a week since we welcomed our partners and members of the community into a sneak peek of the future Elko Rural Food Hub!

As we shared the vision for the project and toured the space together, we were reminded that this is about much more than a building.

The Elko Rural Food Hub is a community-driven investment in stronger food access, expanded fresh food capacity, and greater support for local food pantries and community partners across northeastern Nevada.

Together, we're building infrastructure that will help strengthen food distribution throughout Elko, Eureka, Lander, and White Pine counties for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to support this exciting project. Learn more about the Elko Rural Food Hub and follow the progress: bit.ly/ElkoFoodHub

Thanks to our community, letter carriers, and volunteers, we’re already at 94,000 pounds of food and counting from this year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive!

To everyone who set out a bag, we really appreciate you. To the letter carriers who picked up A LOT of bags in last Saturday's heat, we see the work, and our community feels that impact. And to our volunteers who jumped in to move and sort it all, thank you for getting in there and making it happen. Really grateful for this community and the way we all show up! 💙

Hard to believe it’s already been a week since build day, and we’re still thinking about the creativity, teamwork, and sheer number of cans that came together for CANstruction this year!

Thank you to all the teams who put in the time, ideas, and energy to build something from scratch, and to everyone in the community who stopped by, followed along online, and voted for their favorite structures. There are a lot of moving pieces behind the scenes with an event like this, and it wouldn’t work without people showing up in every way they did.

Now that the cans have been stacked (and restacked... and de-CANstructed), here’s how it all shook out:

PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD:
⭐ Doral Academy of Northern Nevada with Biggest Little Icons

JUDGE'S CHOICES:
🎨 Best Original Design: Sierra Job Corps & KKAE, Feeding the Wild
🏷️ Best Use of Labels: Raley's Food For Families, 40 Years
🍽️ Best Meal: Northern Nevada Sheet Metal & HVAC Apprenticeship, The Can Do Work Boot
🏗️ Structural Ingenuity: Mountain View Montessori
🥫 Most Cans: Sky Ranch Middle School, Team Whale

To everyone who helped build, vote, organize, haul, plan, and make this thing run smoothly, THANK YOU! It really did come together because of you.

Special thanks to the American Institute of Architects Northern Nevada - AIANN who organize CANstruction Reno each year, and to Northern Nevada Building Trades Development Corp., Hawkins & Associates, Inc., Hooft Architecture, Fred & Janice Graham, The Nevada Chapter AGC, and Reno Cotton Candy for helping make this event possible! We’re also grateful for the support of Meadowood Mall, WinCo Foods, and Freeman for backing CANstruction and helping everything run smoothly.

One of the easiest ways to make a difference is happening this Saturday!

The annual NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is back on Saturday, May 9, and helping couldn’t be simpler. Just leave non‑perishable food donations by your mailbox, and your letter carrier will pick them up while delivering mail. No sign‑up, no drop‑off, no extra errands.

Here’s how it helps locally: donations collected in Reno and Sparks come directly to the Food Bank, and in many of the rural communities we serve, donated food supports local partner pantries, helping neighbors close to home.

If you’re wondering what to donate:
🥫 Non‑perishable items only
🥫 Unopened and not expired
🥫 No glass containers or homemade items

In just a few minutes, you can help provide meals for families across our region through a simple act of generosity.

SNAP work requirement updates are taking effect May 1.

Some adults ages 18–64 without dependents may need to meet updated work requirements to keep their benefits.

Most SNAP recipients will not be affected.

The Division of Social Services has already sent notices to neighbors who may be impacted. If you received a letter or have questions, you are not alone — support is available.

Our SNAP Outreach team can help you understand what this means, talk through your situation, and connect you to resources.

On April 1, Amazon opened its first SNV4 Sub Same Day site in Reno, plus their first Grocery Distribution warehouse here in town. Same-day delivery is great and all, but what really matters to us is what comes next!

Because of this new warehouse, and through Feeding America, we’re now receiving grocery donations that include fresh produce and protein, actual groceries people recognize.

It’s a behind-the-scenes change, maybe, but it makes a real difference for families across our community. That part never gets old.

It usually starts small... A regular grocery run. A cart half‑full. Maybe you’re rushing, maybe you’re not! Either way, Fight Hunger. Spark Change. makes it easy to turn everyday shopping at Walmart or Sam's Club into meals for families right here in our community, now through May 3.

There are a few simple ways it works:
🍎 Pick up participating products
💵 Donate or round up at checkout (those spare cents really do add up)
📲 Give online whenever it makes sense for you

And here’s the part that matters most. Every dollar and every purchase stays local. Last year, more than 350,000 meals were raised right here through Fight Hunger. Spark Change. That food went to neighbors who needed it then, and it’s helping neighbors now.

Sometimes the most ordinary choices turn into something meaningful. If you want to learn more or see how it works, take a look here: bit.ly/4vgBldf
