We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Captain Angela Billiot on receiving the inaugural Steve Hamlin Award from Atrium Health Navicent.

This award represents the very best of EMS โ€” leadership, compassion, integrity, humility, and dedication to serving others โ€” and those who know Angela know she embodies those qualities every single day. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of our Hancock County EMS family and could not think of a more deserving recipient for this honor.

Congratulations, Captain Billiot, on this well-earned recognition and for continuing the legacy of Steve Hamlin through your service to others.

๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™ EMS Week wouldnโ€™t be complete without a visit from our favorite Station Mom, Mitzi Nixon Patterson!

From ambulance treat boxes to homemade cupcakes and enough cookies to keep the crews fueled, she made sure Hancock County EMS felt appreciated this week and every week beyond. ๐Ÿช๐Ÿง

Itโ€™s support like this that reminds us we serve an incredible community. Thank you, Mitzi, for always taking care of us while we take care of others!

๐Ÿš‘ A Look Back: The History of EMS & EMS Week

Before modern EMS systems, emergency care looked very different, fragmented, inconsistent, and lacking standardized education and systems of care. Through decades of advocacy, innovation, and continuing education, EMS has evolved into a critical pillar of public health and patient care.

๐Ÿ“… EMS Week began in 1974, when President Gerald Ford authorized the first national recognition of EMS professionals. Since then, it has become a time to honor the dedication, sacrifice, and impact of EMS providers across the country while highlighting the importance of continued progress in emergency medical services.

This yearโ€™s EMS Week theme, โ€œImproving Outcomes Together,โ€ reflects something we believe deeply at CAPCE.

At CAPCE, our mission is to set the standard for quality continuing education for EMS practitioners with the intent of improving patient outcomes, inspiring innovation, and ensuring the highest standards of excellence. Because improving outcomes starts long before a call comes in. It starts with education, training, and supporting the professionals who serve their communities every day.

We are proud to stand alongside EMS educators, providers, clinicians, and organizations nationwide as we celebrate the history of EMS and continue building its future together.

One of our shift Captains, Angela Billiot, posted this earlier and we could not agree more.
Happy EMS Week to the men and women who answer the call.

Thank you for the long shifts, missed holidays, sleepless nights, and the compassion you show during peopleโ€™s hardest moments. You bring calm to chaos, hope to fear, and comfort when itโ€™s needed most.

EMS is more than a profession โ€” itโ€™s a calling rooted in sacrifice, strength, and service. Whether on the ambulance, dispatching calls, supporting crews, or standing beside fellow first responders, your dedication does not go unnoticed.

This week, we celebrate your commitment, courage, and heart. Thank you for all you do for your communities every single day.

Happy EMS Week! ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™
