I posted this under a thread where someone had asked me to comment on their post. This was my reply to the post, but I also decide to let everyone know what went on, not just the people in the post. This was my reply. I am on my computer where I can type now, so let me make a statement on the sidewalk. As one of my all-time favorites news personalities use to say. "AND now for the rest of the story". The city approached the school board earlier this year about putting a sidewalk down Dorman drive. They had applied and received monies to repair and install new sidewalks inside the city limits. They had listed this sidewalk as top priority from talking to city council personnel. In order to install these sidewalks, they needed the district to give them land where they wanted to put them. During the conversation the board ask to have a 6" curb installed for the safety of pedestrians (children walking) and to keep people from driving on it. (Like they are doing with the black top that was installed for walking) When the mayor and two council members came to the last board meeting, they explained what the board was requesting would bring the cost up seven thousand dollars and this would exceed the amount they had gotten for the project. (Please keep in mind we were donating the land) After some more discussions Mrs. Burgett explained she felt the board would be willing to pay the seven thousand dollars, because this was something we requested, the rest of us agreed we would not have a problem with that. The mayor said he would let the other council members that was not present know, what had been discussed. I, other boards members and district personnel who has been involved in this was taken back when we saw what was reported to have come out of the city meeting. What was discussed in our board meeting with the city, I/we were all under the understanding the sidewalk was going to be installed and we would pay for the changes that we requested, ensuring the city would stay within their forty-two-thousand-dollar budget on their grant monies. So yes, the board did agree to donate the land and pay the seven thousand dollars so they could do their project. Like I stated, I was surprised when I read the article in the paper that they were "frustrated" and "unsuccessful", when we gave the city exactly what they ask for after discussions were over. I am so glad we record our meetings for the public to see.
