What a Wonderful Day! Today marks 20 years since the Library moved from Main Street to Church Street. As a thank you gift to the community we are blessed to serve, the Library Foundation partnered with the TN Arts Commission, the Sparta White County Chamber of Commerce, and local artist Tommy Narramore to paint a mural on the retaining wall along Bockman Way. We hope you love it even half as much as we do! Here are some pictures from the day that we shamelessly are sharing from the Chamber and Police Department!

Special thanks to Cass's Little Bakery and the Yummy Yeti for the great food we enjoyed today! Thanks to TDOT Sparta, Nick Dunn and the Sparta Police Department for traffic control.

Huge shoutout to the Library Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library, and the Library Staff for all they did to make today possible.

The Library's 20th Anniversary at 11 N Church Street reception is from 9-11 am with a Ribbon Cutting for the mural at 10 am. One lane of Bockman will be closed for about half an hour to allow safe access to the mural, so be mindful of that. We have displays throughout the building and snacks plus an ice cream truck!

Enjoy our two new displays in the children's section that showcase our 20th Anniversary on North Church Street as well as honor Dolly Parton. Our county legend might be gone, but she will never be forgotten. We will always love her. 🦋

All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker is a great mystery read. Whitaker weaves together a romance and literary mystery as we follow Patch, a one-eyed boy who is brave/loyal and his best friend Saint. Saint is determined not to let anything happen to Patch when he disappears into the shadows along with other children who have gone missing. Spanning several decades, the mystery continues as Patch and Saint find themselves entangled through it all. This book had me on my toes until the very last page. It is a novel about the people who save us, the ones we search for, and unexpected light at the end of the tunnel. If you love a mystery as I do, then you’ll love this one!

As part of White County Public Library's latest video series, we are sharing stories about the history and culture of White County that have been depicted on the mural. ⭐

We have a special treat for you today!

Lester Flatt, who lived most of his life in White County, is among the most influential artists in bluegrass music. In this special interview, Sparta's own Blake Williams, who played banjo with Lester, shares the history of this remarkable chapter and his memories of their time spent together.

We are grateful to Blake and Kimberly Williams for helping us preserve and share these memories of one of White County's most important musical figures.

Special thanks to the Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce and the Tennessee Arts Commission for their support on this grant.
