The Scranton UNICO Ladies Auxiliary will be selling vouchers for MUMS at the UNICO Porketta stand at La Festa Italiana.
The vouchers are $12.00 and the plants can be picked up at Jerry’s for All Seasons.
All the funds collected are donated back into community.
Support this Organization and at the same time bring Fall beauty into your home. Grazie

Every November the fig tree got wrapped, tied, and left standing in the yard like a body. 🌳

Tar paper, burlap, an old rolled carpet, whatever was in the garage. Rope around the whole thing. A bucket turned upside down on top to keep the water out. It looked absurd to the neighbors and it worked, because a fig tree has no business surviving a winter north of Philadelphia, and those trees did it for fifty years.

Half of them started as a cutting somebody carried over from the old country wrapped in a wet rag. That was the whole point. It was not landscaping. It was proof that something from there was still alive here, and the man out in the cold with the rope was not going to be the one who let it die.

He unwrapped it around Easter every year and looked it over the way you check on a relative. 🍃
