What a great day yesterday at our Game of Drones program led by our Area Specialized Stem Agent Karrie Combs. We started the day with block coding with Sphero Indis, Sphero Bolts, and then finished out our day with some super cool drones!

🥾 LAST CALL FOR ADVENTURE! 🥾

We still have a few spaces left for our Blue Ridge Parkway / Doughton Park hiking day this Thursday, June 18! Dust off your hiking shoes and join us for an incredible day in the great outdoors. 🌲✨🍀

Here’s a sneak peek at the fun we have planned:
🏡 Start the morning at the historic Brinegar Cabin with some amazing Park Rangers and an awesome program.🌾🍃
🚶‍♂️ Hit the trail for a short hike with our awesome friends from the Alleghany Sparta Trails Association (ASTA).
🧺 Enjoy a picnic lunch, nature exploration, crafts, and so much more!
🍦 Rumor has it we might even wrap up the day with some ice cream!

AGES: 8+ (under 8 with paid adult)
COST: $15
Wear closed toe shoes & bring a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat. Pack a bag lunch with a drink.

Calling all dairy youth ages 6–18! Whether you're brand new to showing calves or looking to sharpen your skills for the show ring, this camp is for you!

📍 Alleghany Fairgrounds – Sparta, NC

Join us for hands-on learning led by Katie Shultz of Dillsburg, PA, covering:
✅ Showmanship
✅ Clipping & fitting
✅ Daily calf care
✅ Management decisions
✅ Building confidence in and out of the show ring

Advanced Calf Camp (Ages 12–18 with experience)

Calf Camp 101 (Ages 6–11 with experience)

📸 Get your cameras ready! Entries for the 2026 Dr. Kim Ingold 4-H Photography Contest are now open!

This annual competition encourages NC 4-H youth and adult photographers to showcase their creativity, practice photography skills and capture meaningful moments through the camera lens.

Participants can enter photos in the following categories:
🍀 4-H in Action
🌄 Nature’s Beauty
🐾 Animals
⚫ Black and White

All entries must be submitted by August 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Participants should review the contest rules, category requirements, judging information and submission guidelines before entering.

Week 1 of Summer Fun was pretty terrific - Movie Night, Chef and Child, Art Adventures, Cool in the Pool and ended the week at the Kickoff to Summer event @ Crouse Park. A huge thank you to Chef Donald Mc Millanand Sparta ART Parties for making our week amazing 🍳⏲️🥘🍎🎨🖼️🖌️🍀

Attention Pickleballers!🍀🥒

Alleghany 4-H is doing a pickleball tournament fundraiser to send youth to 4-H summer camp! 4-H summer camp is a week long overnight camp, where youth meet new friends from across the state and participate in fun activities such as archery, canoeing, and fishing!

The format of the tournament will be a round robin, where you will be matched with a new partner each game. Participants will be guaranteed to play 6 games, and the top four participants in each category (based on points scored) will move on to a final match. The cost is $30 per player, and can be paid in cash or a check (made out to Alleghany 4-H) the day of the tournament (June 13th at Crater Park)

Categories include:
3.0-3.5: 9am start time
3.5-4.0: 12 pm start time
4.0+: 9am start time
