ADGA YEAR END REPORT
YEAR END REPORT
Date: 9/11/2020
COMMITTEE: Type
COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON: Trinity Smith Malmanis
DECISIONS REQUIRING BOARD ACTION: None
SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE WORK AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR: The committee had a very active start to 2020. With the onset of the pandemic and other parts of ADGA needing more attention and to lessen the burden of the board for an unprecedented virtual board meeting the chair decided not to move forward with any BOD action, but will summarize the discussions and hopefully 2021 will bring some exciting board action from this committee.
The committee had some good discussion regarding the allotment of points and reorganization of terminology on the current ADGA scorecard. This started as a directive from a BOD member requesting that we look at separating Back and Rump under GA on the scorecard. The discussion led to several other ideas from committee members. A Quick summary of discussed changes are below. No official vote was taken, but majority of committee members were not opposed to these changes.
Guidebook page 146 1. Remove Stature (2pts become available)
Rational:
a. Nowhere in our scorecard does it say a Dairy Goat needs to be TALL, yet in judging, especially young judges, many times the first reason is always "taller". This removes unintended emphasis on height.
b. Removes unintended conflict with Linear where stature is actually "height" and is only really used to verify minimum and maximum compliance. 2.
Separate BACK and RUMP - 1 point from stature to each which would make the point breakdown 5/5, 7/7, 9/9.
Back - Strong and strait with well-defined vertebrae throughout; (and slightly uphill to withers); taller at withers than at hips; level chine with full crops into a strait wide loin; wide hips smoothly set and level with (back) chine and loin.
Rump - Strong, uniformly wide and nearly level from hips to pinbones and thurl to thurl; thurls set two-thirds of the distance from hips to pinbones; well defined and wide pinbones set slightly lower than the hips; tailhead slightly above and smoothly set between pinbones; tail symmetrical to body and free from coarseness.
Rational:
a. To be more consistent with linear where back and rump are evaluated separately.
b. add emphasis to RUMP by defining its value.
3. Add terminology of “long bone pattern throughout” to dairy strength somewhere.
