Our Mission:
Brighter Tomorrows seeks to embrace equality and diversity in empowering individuals to create a safer personal environment within Monroe County. Through education, collaboration and encouragement of personal choice, Brighter Tomorrows strives to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault in the communities we serve, advocating for a non violent society.

Employee Spotlight:

Pictured below is Carrie Olson, a social worker with Brighter Tomorrows.

Carrie has been a part of Monroe County Shelter Care Inc.’s Brighter Tomorrows program since 2022. As a social worker, she provides trauma-informed counseling and support to individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma. Her role involves helping clients process difficult experiences, build on their strengths, and move toward healing, safety, and stability.

Throughout her time with the organization, Carrie has been dedicated to meeting clients with compassion, empathy, and respect. She offers individual counseling, facilitates support groups, and works tirelessly to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered. Carrie believes that every person deserves dignity, hope, and the opportunity to heal.

She emphasizes that compassion, empathy, and a strong support system are essential for healing and feels honored to serve the Monroe County community through Brighter Tomorrows.

Pictured below is Jan, the program director of Brighter Tomorrows.

Jan has been employed at Monroe County Shelter Care Inc. since 2008. Before that, she volunteered with the organization for three years while in high school. Jan spent the first seven years as a community educator and victim advocate before becoming the program director in 2015.

Throughout her time with the organization, Jan's passion has always been supporting survivors of abuse and helping them navigate some of life's most difficult moments with compassion, advocacy, and hope. In addition to working directly with survivors, Jan enjoys educating students, professionals, and community groups about healthy relationships, abuse prevention, and the services available through Brighter Tomorrows. She believes that education and strong community partnerships are essential for creating safer, healthier communities and ensuring that survivors throughout Monroe County have access to the support they deserve.
