Description..A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT SOUTHWESTERN CUMBERLAND... NORTHERN VAN BUREN AND WHITE COUNTIES THROUGH 330 PM CDT...

At 245 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms near Sparta, moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include... Crossville, Sparta, Spencer, Pleasant Hill, Doyle, Lake Tansi, Cumberland Mountain State Park, Bakers Crossroads, Indian Rock Lake, Virgin Falls State Natural Area, and Fall Creek Falls State Park.

This includes Interstate 40 between mile markers 320 and 323.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

WHAT...Heat index values up to 109.

WHERE...All of Middle Tennessee.

WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Monday.

IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Starting the week of August 17, schools will be conducting safety drills in collaboration with local emergency agencies. These drills include practicing procedures for fire, lockdown, and inclement weather emergencies.
