Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family of Trooper Ritger and with his brothers and sisters of the Wisconsin State Patrol during this incredibly difficult time. 🖤💙🖤

It is with profound sadness that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin State Patrol announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Bradley Ritger at the age of 29.

On September 21, 2026, Trooper Ritger was responding to a traffic pursuit when he deployed a tire deflation device on a bridge deck west of the Dunn County/Eau Claire County line. As he moved to a position of cover, he fell from the bridge onto the roadway below. Despite lifesaving efforts and critical medical care, Trooper Ritger succumbed to his injuries on October 2, 2026.

Trooper Ritger joined the Wisconsin State Patrol as a member of the 67th Recruit Class. He served in the Northwest Region for nearly five years, primarily in the Dunn County area. During his career, he attained certifications as a general law enforcement instructor, mobile field force team member and squad leader, and salvage vehicle inspector. Prior to his service with the Wisconsin State Patrol, Trooper Ritger served with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for three years.

Trooper Ritger was a dedicated public servant whose strong work ethic and positive presence left a lasting impact on anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He approached every situation with professionalism, integrity and a genuine commitment to serving others. Whether assisting the public, supporting his fellow troopers, or taking on difficult challenges, he consistently demonstrated compassion and willingness to help wherever needed. His dedication to his family and unwavering commitment to his profession will not be forgotten.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Trooper Ritger’s family, friends, loved ones and all who served alongside him. As the community mourns, the Wisconsin State Patrol has placed a law enforcement memorial vehicle at its Northwest Region Post in Eau Claire where the public is welcome to drop off cards, flowers, or other condolences.

Out of respect for the family, no additional information will be shared at this time. Funeral arrangements are being made by the family. We kindly ask media and the public to respect their privacy and space for grieving.

Heavy rain is expected tonight through tomorrow afternoon, with rainfall totals of 1–3 inches likely. Some areas could receive 4 inches or more. Flooding is possible, particularly in areas that receive the heaviest rainfall.

The greatest risk for flooding is expected during the overnight hours. Flooded roadways can be difficult or impossible to see at night. If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around—do not attempt to drive through it.

Dangerous heat is expected over the next few afternoons. Extreme heat can become life-threatening in a short time. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and never leave children or pets in an unattended vehicle. If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke or another heat-related illness, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Potentially dangerous heat will be possible through Tuesday evening with afternoon heat indices of 95 to 110°F. Take frequent breaks. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed.

On December 13, 2007, Congress passed a resolution designating June 1-7 as National CPR & AED Awareness Week to spotlight how lives can be saved when more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED.

Each year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals in the United States. When cardiac arrest happens, every minute matters. Immediate CPR from a bystander can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.

This week serves as a reminder that survival from sudden cardiac arrest depends not only on training and technology, but also on willingness of bystanders to take action when every second counts.

In partnership with Badgerland Emergency Medical Services and Tomah Area Ambulance Service, we have launched PulsePoint Respond and PulsePoint AED mobile apps in Monroe County.

🔹𝐏𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝 empowers CPR-trained citizens by alerting them to nearby suspected cardiac arrest emergencies and directing them to the closest publicly accessible AED.
🔸𝐏𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐄𝐃 helps communities build a stronger AED registry so lifesaving devices can be located faster during emergencies.

Community members are encouraged to download these free lifesaving apps, and local businesses are encouraged to register their AEDs to help make emergency response faster and more effective.
