Happy National Nonprofit Day! For 90 years, United Way of the Piedmont has served as a nonprofit partner that brings our entire community together.

These may just look like any other set of car keys 🔑

To our client, these keys unlocked the last door in a nearly year-long journey to stability.

This mother of five children came to United Way of the Piedmont last year facing homelessness. Through our Community Resource Coordinator (CRC) program, she received rental assistance and case management, including employment services and financial coaching.

She found a new job, but a sudden housing setback put her family at risk again. With support from family and her CRC, she kept moving forward, planning her next steps and working through each barrier as it came.

When a security deposit fell short, our Barriers to Employment fund covered the gap so she could move her family into a new home.

Next came transportation. This client built a budget she could sustain and found a reliable vehicle within her means, with United Way assistance helping bridge the cost.

In July, she picked up the keys to her car. Now her family has stable housing, reliable transportation, and a path forward built for herself and her children.

Happy first day of school for many Spartanburg County students!

Nearly 1,500 Spartanburg County students started their school year with new backpacks and other supplies thanks to donors, partners, and volunteers who gave through United for Students: School Supply Drive ❤️

Join us in celebrating Anne Perrin Flynn, pictured here with her grandchildren, on receiving the highest civilian honor in South Carolina: the Order of the Palmetto.

Our President & CEO Paige Stephenson said it best in her recommendation of Anne for this award:

"For more than four decades, Anne has demonstrated extraordinary civic leadership, philanthropy, and service that have strengthened communities and improved lives across South Carolina.

Anne’s longstanding commitment to United Way of the Piedmont reflects her dedication to the common good. A long-time major donor, she has generously supported work spanning education, financial security, health, and basic needs.

Beyond her philanthropy, Anne has provided sustained leadership as a member of the Tocqueville Giving Society Committee, where she and her late husband, Larry Flynn, encouraged fellow philanthropists to join them in advancing United Way’s vision of a united community where everyone thrives."
