Our flight nurses and flight paramedics recently completed another round of quarterly simulation training in Greenville using high-fidelity patient mannequins. These realistic scenarios help our crews sharpen critical skills, strengthen teamwork, and prepare for the rare but high-acuity emergencies they may encounter. Continuous training is one of the many ways we stay ready to provide the highest level of care when every second counts.

🚁 Regional One Air Medical will be joining Cherry Mountain Fire Department ’s Hotdog Fundraiser on Saturday, August 1!

Come meet the flight crew, see the helicopter, and help raise money for the fire department and its future helipad. A dedicated helipad will provide a safer landing area and help air medical crews reach critically ill or injured patients faster.

We hope to see you there! 🚒🌭🚁

In Remembrance | July 13, 2004

Today, we pause to remember a tragic day that will forever remain part of Regional One’s history.

Twenty-two years ago, Pilot Robert “Bob” Giard, Flight Nurse Glenda Tessnear, Flight Paramedic David “J.R.” Bacon Jr., and the patient entrusted to their care lost their lives in a helicopter accident shortly after departing a scene on Interstate 26 near Newberry, South Carolina.

They were answering the call and caring for someone in need. Their service, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten, and their legacy continues to live on through Regional One and the air medical community.

Today and always, we remember all four lives lost.

A few months ago, we shared this mission along with photos from the scene. Now, one year after the flight, we’re honored to share the full story behind Emilia’s incredible recovery.

We’re grateful for the teamwork of Pilot Jim Biddle, Flight Nurse Jessica Mills, Flight Paramedic Matt Lonon, Asbury Rehoboth VFD, Thorne Ambulance Service, and our hospital partners. It took everyone working together to give Emilia the best possible chance.

Take a few minutes to read the article below and see how this remarkable story unfolded.

Regional One Air Medical Flight Medic Matthew Lonon doesn’t let much that he sees on the job bother him. He can’t. He has to compartmentalize. He has to send it away. “It’s how we deal with it,” Lonon said. “We push it to the side. You have to.” But last summer, after treating Emilia H...
