Spartanburg City Fire Department Reaccredited for the Fifth Time!

The Spartanburg City Fire Department has been unanimously reaffirmed as an accredited agency by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).

Following an extensive accreditation process and onsite evaluation by a peer assessment team, the department has achieved its fifth accreditation.

This recognition reflects the department’s continued commitment to professional standards, accountability, continuous improvement, and effective service to the Spartanburg community.

Behind every set of turnout gear is years of research, innovation, and testing designed to protect firefighters when seconds matter most.

This week, members of the Spartanburg City Fire Department visited Safety Components in Greenville for a behind-the-scenes look at how the advanced fabrics used in our turnout gear are engineered and manufactured.

Our Turnout Gear Committee is committed to staying informed on the latest advancements in firefighter protective equipment. Learning directly from industry experts helps us make informed decisions when selecting the gear our firefighters rely on every day.

Investing in the best equipment means investing in the safety of our firefighters, ensuring they have the protection they need to continue serving the citizens of Spartanburg safely and effectively.

A special thank you to the team at Safety Components for their hospitality and for sharing their knowledge and expertise with our personnel. Opportunities like this help us continue building a safer, stronger fire department for the community we proudly serve.

🏆 2026 Golden Wheel Award Winner 🏆

Congratulations to Engineer Michael Segina on earning the 2026 Spartanburg City Fire Department Golden Wheel Award!

Engineer Segina earned this year's title during our Annual Driver Refresher Course with a winning time of 2:27.98 and zero penalties, demonstrating exceptional skill, precision, and safe operation of our fire apparatus.

The Golden Wheel Award recognizes excellence behind the wheel and the dedication required to safely operate emergency vehicles in service to the citizens of Spartanburg. Training like this helps ensure our apparatus operators are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs them most.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Fire and Life Safety Educator I course hosted this week at Spartanburg City Fire Department Headquarters Station!

We appreciate everyone who dedicated their time to strengthening their fire and life safety education knowledge and helping make our communities safer.

A special thank you to instructors Nick Ray and Perry Gosnell for sharing their expertise throughout the course. We also extend our appreciation to the Spartanburg City Fire Marshal's Office for their assistance and support in making this training possible.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this class a success. We look forward to hosting more training opportunities in the future.

☀️ LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK ☀️

A simple habit can help save a life.

Each year, about 38 children in the United States die from heatstroke after being left in or becoming trapped inside a vehicle. Most victims are 3 years old or younger, and many were unintentionally forgotten by a caregiver.

Even on a mild day, temperatures inside a parked vehicle can rise rapidly and reach dangerous levels within minutes. Cracking the windows or parking in the shade does not significantly reduce the risk. A child's body also heats up much faster than an adult's, making heat related illness a serious danger.

Children and pets are especially vulnerable to extreme heat. Never leave a child or pet unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a short period of time.

If you observe a child or pet in a vehicle who appears to be in distress, call 911 immediately.

The Spartanburg City Fire Department encourages everyone to make "Look Before You Lock" a daily habit. Taking a few extra seconds to check the back seat before locking your vehicle can help prevent a tragedy and keep our community safe.

Standing Together in Service

Today, Spartanburg City Fire Department was honored to provide coverage for North Spartanburg Fire District, allowing their personnel to attend the funeral of a former member.

The fire service is built on a tradition of service, respect, and unwavering support for one another. Providing this coverage ensured their firefighters could gather to honor a life dedicated to serving the community while maintaining emergency response for the citizens they protect every day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and everyone at North Spartanburg Fire District during this difficult time. It was our privilege to stand alongside our neighboring department in their time of remembrance.

What an eventful weekend for our crews. From Spartanburg’s Greatest American City Sweep to the Upstate Fatherhood Coalition Spartanburg 5K Run for Fathers, our personnel were proud to serve our community in multiple ways. Crews participated in beautifying our city streets while also maintaining readiness to provide medical assistance during the race if needed.

We greatly appreciate the opportunity to participate in both events and strengthen partnerships that make our community safer, stronger, and more connected. Thank you to everyone involved, and we look forward to many more opportunities to work together in the future.
