“Tom” Ivey
The Spartanburg Fire Department mourns the loss of Fire Commander Thomas “Tom” Ivey, who passed away on June 11, 2026, following a long illness.
Commander Ivey dedicated more than two decades of service to the Spartanburg Fire Department, beginning his career in 1972 and rising through the ranks to become Fire Commander in 1990. His commitment to the fire service continued long after retirement through his work with the Jonesville Fire Department, the South Carolina Fire Academy, and as a Fire Instructor.
A respected leader, mentor, and public servant, Commander Ivey’s contributions to the fire service were recognized with numerous honors, including the Order of the Palmetto and induction into the South Carolina Firefighters’ Association Hall of Fame.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Rita, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Thank you, Commander Ivey, for your decades of dedicated service to our department, community, and the fire service. Your legacy will not be forgotten.
