Barking Around the Burg is rolling, and we’ve got pups ready for their next adventure. Chilli, Maverick, Ross, TJ, and Harley are all eligible for outings — whether it’s a walk downtown, a coffee run, or a quick stroll on a trail.

🐾Meet Diesel — the 1‑year‑old ball chaser, joy bringer, and certified good boy.

Diesel is super friendly and lives for a good game of fetch. His favorite move is gentle keep‑away, but he always lets you take the ball so the fun never stops. With a solid 7/10 energy level, he’s all about toys, playtime, and soaking up every pet you’re willing to give.

Diesel gets bouncy and excited when meeting new people — it’s pure happiness, not chaos — and while he could use a little polish on his leash manners, he makes up for it with charm. His signature trick? Standing up on his back feet to politely ask for head pats. It’s impossible not to smile.

Diesel is beginning to experience kennel stress, and he really thrives when he’s out and able to relax, play, and connect with people.

Yes, your eyes are working. No, you’re not seeing double. 🐾

Chris and Liam are 1‑year‑old Boxer mix twins who look so identical we’ve started checking their “birthmarks” to tell them apart.

Chris is the outgoing twin — the one who believes every human he meets is a long‑lost best friend. He’s handsome, fun‑loving, and always first in line for cuddles. Liam is the gentle twin — a little shy at first, but once he warms up, he’s all sweetness and soft‑hearted loyalty. And when he’s playing with Chris? Full goofball unlocked.

They’ve been at PRC nearly 40 days, and we can't figure out why, considering they’re basically a two‑for‑one joy package: one extrovert, one introvert, both adorable.

🔥 It’s HOT — and your pets are feeling it.

We’​ve seen an uptick in dogs showing signs of heat exhaustion, including temperatures over 105°F, which is the range where dogs begin experiencing moderate to severe overheating.

Our Medical Director spoke with WYFF this week about how to keep pets safe — here are the key tips every owner should follow:

☀️ 1. Check the pavement before you walk
Hot asphalt can burn paws and raise your dog’s​ temperature quickly. Use the 5‑second rule: place your hand on the pavement — if you can’t hold it for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog.

⏰ 2. Walk early morning or late evening
Dogs can begin overheating once temps reach the 80s, especially with humidity. Stick to:​ Early morning walks​. Late evening potty breaks​. Shorter outings during warm weather​. Avoid the hottest part of the day whenever possible.

💧 3. If your dog must be outside
Make sure they have:​ Shade​, constant access to cool wate​r and a place to rest out of direct sun​.

Dogs don’t cool down like humans — they rely on panting, not sweating, which makes them more vulnerable in heat and humidity.

🚨 Know the signs of heat exhaustion
Early symptoms include:

- Heavy panting
- Restlessness
- Frequent water breaks
- Drooling
- Bright‑red gums

More serious symptoms include:
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Weakness or collapse
- Purple/blue gums

If you notice any of these, move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian.

🐾 Keep your pets safe — heat exhaustion can happen fast.
