What does New Beginnings mean to me?
I immediately think of a few words such as fellowship, shopping, and blessings! When I first went to New Beginnings it was for assistance. I was told how I could receive things I needed for my new baby. This helped my family out tremendously. Although my husband and I were both working full time, we lived paycheck to paycheck. Especially with the cost of childcare. At first, I was apprehensive because I didn’t think I needed help as much as others and felt bad. They assured me that it was for everyone and any way they could help us they would. Getting diapers and wipes every week helped us be able to get other items we needed for the house. I have always loved thrift shopping. I couldn’t always afford to shop for baby clothes or other items we needed. The store at New Beginnings gave me my fix for thrift shopping that I loved when I couldn’t afford it. I was very thankful and still am.
As time passed I had more one on one interactions with the staff and volunteers and began building relationships with the ladies. I began to bond with them and was the recipient of support for multiple miscarriages, hard times, and advice in many areas of life. Receiving suggested information needed such as the right Dr to go to for high-risk pregnancies for my age, what the newest baby supplies were, or new events happening for me or my children to attend was very helpful. I continue to build some of these relationships even as my kids grow older and are no longer babies. It has been six years since I signed up with New Beginnings, and many good conversations with the women of New Beginnings through these years have been had.
I am always trying to get people to go to New Beginnings when I hear of someone who is expecting. I know how much the New Beginnings’ staff and volunteers care. I am eager for others to experience what I did and the blessings they give. There is so much more than just items to be attained there. There are people who care, will help watch the kids as you shop, will take time to pray with you, and answer questions.
I am always looking for ways to give back to New Beginnings now that I have been blessed so much by them and continue to be. That is my prayer for everyone that uses the program. Not just that they would know the love of Christ through the program but that they would want to accept that love and share it with others however Christ is calling them to do so. I look forward to seeing New Beginnings grow in the power of Christ to reach out to those in need. -R
