This week our EMS team partnered with the Spencer and Columbus Athletic Trainers to practice managing sports injuries. We discussed treatment and communication protocols and practiced airway access, emergency helmet/pads removal, spinal immobilization, lifting, and longboarding. This training ensures our EMS team is ready to handle a sports injury on or off the field.

We want to extend a special thank you to the Spencer Athletic Director and the Spencer & Columbus Athletic Trainers for partnering in this important training.

Current Fire Danger is Very High! No burning of any kind until danger is back down to moderate.

WILDFIRE DANGER: The Wisconsin DNR has upped the entire state to either a high or very high fire danger for today. Burning is highly discouraged today. Some areas may see their burn permits suspended today as a result of the risk. Please avoid burning debris today. Please be cautious with any other activities that could potentially start a wildfire.

Please make sure to call the fire department for updates on the fire danger level and a burning permit prior to burning.

Severe Weather Alert for Central Wisconsin

The forecast for Central Wisconsin includes the potential for severe thunderstorms. Residents within the Spencer Fire District are encouraged to closely monitor local weather sources and have a plan in place to seek shelter if severe weather develops.

The dome will be open and staffed at 3pm

When do the sirens sound in the Village of Spencer?
In partnership with the Spencer Fire Department, the Village of Spencer follows Wisconsin Outdoor Warning Siren Best Practices. Sirens are activated under two conditions:

• A National Weather Service Tornado Warning
• Extreme winds or severe weather, with measured or imminent winds at or above 70 mph

If you hear the sirens activated, seek shelter immediately.

Community Storm Shelter:
The Dome at the Spencer School is a designated storm shelter for those who are unable to safely shelter in place.

Storm Monitoring Efforts:
The Spencer Fire Department has trained storm spotters who may be deployed to monitor incoming weather and provide real-time information to help keep our community safe.

Our response to severe weather is only as good as the information we receive, and while we have local weather spotters, their visibility may be limited depending on conditions.

How you can help:

If you see a funnel cloud or tornado, call 911 immediately.

Be ready to provide:
• Your location
• The location of the funnel cloud/tornado
• The direction it is traveling

Important: Never put yourself in danger to report severe weather. Your safety comes first.

Stay alert. Stay safe.

With the storm approaching we will have the dome staffed at 3pm. We will have spotters out outside of the village. Sirens are activated only if there is a tornado warning or one is spotted.

Stay safe and take care.
