The Spencer Police Department is hiring a full time 911 Dispatcher!

We offer a strong salary ranging from $24.54 to $27.61 per hour, plus up to $4.07 in contractual stipends.

Candidates must be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a U.S. citizen, and be willing to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Preference will be given to candidates with dispatching experience or those who have completed the Massachusetts Public Safety Communications Academy.

The Town of Spencer is reviewing and updating the Zoning Bylaw, Subdivision Regulations, and Zoning Map, and we want to hear from you!

Join us on October 7 at 6:00 PM in the Great Hall of Memorial Town Hall for a joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Conservation Commission.

This meeting is an opportunity to share your ideas, concerns, and suggestions before a draft bylaw is developed. Your input will help us make Spencer’s regulations clearer, easier to understand, and more supportive of the needs and priorities of the community.

ROAD CLOSURE: BORKUM ROAD

Borkum Road is currently impassable from both directions due to trees and electrical wires down across the roadway.

We are aware of the situation and have identified where the road is blocked. Unfortunately, our Highway Department and tree crews cannot safely begin clearing the roadway until National Grid addresses the downed electrical wires. National Grid is aware of the issue. We understand they are currently dealing with a high volume of calls and are working to address outages and hazards throughout the area.

We are also aware of other downed trees throughout town and are working with our Highway Department to address them as reports come in and as conditions allow it to be done safely.

If you have an emergency, please call 911. We are aware of the situation and the road closures.

As always, if you see a downed tree or electrical wire, do not approach it or attempt to drive around it unless it is safe to do so. Downed wires should always be considered live and dangerous.

For non-emergency issues, including downed trees, please contact the Spencer Police Department business line at 508-885-6333.

-Full Quinn Benefits (Education Incentive): 10% for Associate’s, 20% for Bachelor’s, 25% for Master’s Degree

Today, the Spencer Police Department says goodbye to Chief Michael Befford as he retires after a distinguished career in law enforcement.

Chief Befford came to the Spencer Police Department in 1998 as a Sergeant and has spent the years since serving in leadership roles within the department. He later became a Lieutenant and ultimately Chief of Police, dedicating nearly three decades to the officers, staff, and community he served.

Throughout those years, Chief Befford has been a part of many changes and milestones within the department and has had the opportunity to work alongside countless members of the Spencer Police Department, other agencies, town employees, and members of the community.

We thank Chief Befford for his years of service, leadership, dedication, and commitment to the Town of Spencer and the Spencer Police Department.

Congratulations on your retirement, Chief. We wish you and your family all the best in this next chapter. Enjoy it Chief, you have certainly earned it!. 👮‍♂️🇺🇸

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

We pause to remember and honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice that day, as well as the countless families, friends, first responders, and communities whose lives were forever changed.

We also remember Spencer’s own Brian Sweeney, whose life was tragically lost aboard United Airlines Flight 175 on that fateful morning. His memory, along with the memories of all those we lost, will never be forgotten.

If you have a few minutes, we encourage you to watch the video included below from the NYPD as we reflect on the events of September 11, 2001, and honor those who lost their lives.

To help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently, we need everyone’s cooperation when traveling to the Spencer Fairgrounds.

➡️ PLEASE FOLLOW THIS ROUTE:

Take Route 9 towards the Big Y plaza then proceed onto Meadow Road and follow Meadow Road directly to the Spencer Fairgrounds.

🚫 Please do not use Route 31 North or South to access Smithville Road or Smithville Cross Road. You will not be able to enter the fairgrounds from those directions.

Using GPS? Please use Waze! Waze is currently routing vehicles correctly into the fairgrounds.
