Yesterday was our busiest day so far in 2026, with firefighters responding to 36 calls for service.

The first call was shortly before 4:15 AM with a motor vehicle accident involving a trapped occupant who was successfully rescued. As strong winds moved through the area, calls quickly escalated. Between 8:29 AM and 9:09 AM, firefighters handled 14 calls in just 40 minutes, many related to downed trees, power lines, and storm damage.

To put that into perspective, we averaged just under three calls per day over the last five years. Our previous busiest day(s) of 2026 came during the March 31-April 1 flooding event, when we responded to 22 calls.

Thank you to our volunteer members who staffed our firehouses and answered call after call throughout the day. We also appreciate our partner agencies, North Greece Fire District, Hilton Fire Department., Gates Fire District, Town of Ogden Highway Department, Town of Ogden Police Department, Spencerport DPW, and Spencerport Electric for responding with us during the morning surge, and the community members who stopped by with snacks and refreshments. Your support means a lot to our volunteers!

This morning, Spencerport firefighters responded to 13 calls for service, all in about a 30-minute span.

The first call was for the reported house fire, with an update while our firefighters were in rout, that a large tree fell on to the house. That was followed by numerous calls for trees down on power lines, storm-related hazards, and an automatic fire alarm.

What makes this response especially remarkable is that a majority of these calls was handled by our 100% volunteer membership at a time when most people are getting ready for work, commuting, or starting their day.

We are incredibly proud of our dedicated volunteers who continue to answer the call, day in and day out, no matter the time, weather, or circumstances. Their commitment ensures that help is available when our community needs it most.

That said, we can ALWAYS use the extra help. Interested in joining? Visit spencerportfire.org/join to learn more about the benefits of becoming a volunteer firefighter.

Thank you to North Greece Fire District and Hilton Fire Department. who also responded to assist us at the reported house fire and responded to a few of the calls in our district that came in simultaniously. Thank you also to Spencerport Electric and DPW, RG&E, Town of Ogden Police Department, and Town of Ogden Highway Department for assisting us at the calls involving power lines.

Thank you to every member who responded this morning and helped keep our district safe!

Spencerport firefighters were honored to participate in Flag Day ceremonies this morning at Canal View Elementary School.

Quint 2910 proudly displayed the American flag as students, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate our nation’s flag and the values it represents. Thank you to Canal View Elementary for inviting us to be part of this special tradition!

🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸

Carnival may be over, but the training never stops. Each year after the rides leave, our firefighters conduct a pump operations drill by drafting water from the Erie Canal, transferring it through our apparatus, and wetting down the Carnival grounds. It’s a great opportunity for our pump operators to sharpen their skills and practice moving large volumes of water from a source other than a hydrant.

This training is especially important since portions of our district do not have fire hydrants and rely on alternative water sources during emergencies. The Erie Canal is one of those critical water sources, and drills like this help ensure we’re ready when it matters most.

Spencerport firefighters responded to a five-alarm fire on Lyell Avenue in the City of Rochester early this morning. Our crew assisted with water supply operations by connecting to a hydrant on Jay Street and laying approximately 1,100 feet of 5-inch large-diameter hose to feed RFD's Engine 7.

During large fires, the hydrants nearest the scene are often all in use. By positioning Engine 2912 farther away and connecting to a hydrant outside the immediate fire area, we were able to provide an additional water source with sufficient pressure to support ongoing firefighting operations.

It takes a team to make the Spencerport Firemen's Carnival possible, and we are grateful for our outstanding first responder partners.

Thank you to the neighboring fire departments that covered our stations throughout Carnival, allowing our members to staff the grounds while ensuring our community remained protected.

A special thank you to Gates Volunteer Ambulance for providing on-site EMS coverage throughout the event, delivering immediate care whenever it was needed.

We are also grateful to our law enforcement partners and security team for their presence and support, helping keep our guests, volunteers, and community safe all week long.
