As another school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on all of the amazing outreach opportunities we have had throughout Rutherford County Schools this year! 🌱📚🐛

From learning about soil, worms, composting, plants, pollinators, watersheds, agriculture, and conservation practices, to getting hands-on with fun activities and classroom demonstrations, it has been such a joy connecting with students and teachers across the county. Watching students get excited about the world around them is one of the best parts of what we do!

This school year, the Rutherford County Soil & Water Conservation District completed 58 outreaches across 11 schools throughout Rutherford County! We are so thankful for every teacher, staff member, and student who welcomed us into their classrooms.

This year’s outreach schools included:

• Ellenboro Elementary
• Forest City-Dunbar Elementary
• Harris Elementary
• Pinnacle Elementary
• Sunshine Elementary
• Rutherfordton Elementary
• Trinity Christian School
• Lake Lure Classical
• Chase Middle School
• East Middle School
• R-S Central High School

Thank you for making this year so memorable. We are already looking forward to more learning, exploring, and conservation fun next year! 💚🌎🌿

It’s been another fun and busy week! I had the opportunity to dive into soil, worms, and composting with students at Sunshine Elementary, lead a plant outreach at R-S Central, and the water cycle presentation at Pinnacle Elementary. I love getting to bring these topics to life!

Teachers, don’t forget—there’s still time to schedule a visit! If you need a post-testing activity that’s both fun and educational, I’ve got you covered. And as always, it’s completely FREE!

What a full and rewarding day out in the community! I had so much fun celebrating Earth Day with the students at Lake Lure Classical and then heading over to Pinnacle Elementary for their Career Fair. It’s always a joy to connect with students, share the importance of soil and water conservation, and see their curiosity come to life.

Opportunities like these are what it’s all about—building awareness, answering questions, and inspiring the next generation to care for our natural resources.

If you’d like Rutherford County Soil & Water to be part of your next event, classroom visit, or career day, I’d love to connect. Give me a call or send me an email to get something scheduled!

Healthy soil, which sustains our crops, livestock and local communities, is the foundation of our agricultural food system.

Today was a wonderful day at Sunshine Elementary celebrating Heritage Day with their students! 🌾

It was truly an honor to be part of such a special event and to work alongside so many amazing community partners. Together, we helped showcase Rutherford County’s rich heritage and highlighted some of the old-fashioned practices that many of us still know and love today.

Moments like these remind us how important it is to preserve and share our roots with the next generation! 💛
