It has been 3 days since the Upriver Fire forever changed the lives of many families in the Northwood community. While some residents have been able to return home, others are facing the heartbreaking reality that their homes and belongings are gone. Our hearts are with every family affected by this tragedy. The road to recovery will be long, but please know that Spokane County Fire District 9 stands with you and remains committed to supporting our community every step of the way.

We also want to acknowledge those who learned of the loss of their home through social media. We understand how difficult that can be, and it is something we strongly oppose. Out of respect for those impacted, we have intentionally avoided sharing direct images or video from the affected neighborhood. While there will be a time to highlight the actions of our firefighters and the challenges they faced during the incident, our focus right now remains on supporting the residents and families affected by this fire.

“Our commitment does not end when the fire is out,” said Chief Vinci. “We’re here for our residents not just in the days ahead, but for the months and years to come. Our commitment is to stand with this community every step of the recovery.”

As our community continues to navigate the impacts of the ongoing wildfires, we want to express our sincere gratitude to the firefighters, first responders, and support personnel working around the clock to protect lives, homes, and property.

We know many families have been affected by evacuations and uncertainty over the past couple of days. Through it all, firefighters have continued to answer the call, working long hours in challenging conditions to keep our community safe.

We are sharing this message from Chief Vinci to help keep our community informed and connected.

To everyone on the front lines: thank you for your courage, dedication, and commitment to serving others. Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the fires and the crews continuing the fight.
