Spokane City Council is introducing an ordinance that will require that bedrooms in rental housing be maintained at 80° and below during high heat weather events. This can be done through better insulation (which also provides energy conservation) or by installing cooling devices. The ordinance will not go into effect until 2031 to give landlords time to make changes. The ordinance is expected to be opposed by landlords. It will have the first reading on Monday, June 22. Mark your calendar and attend this meeting or sign up to testify online or by phone.

Protected income sources include:
✔ Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8)
✔ Social Security benefits
✔ Disability benefits
✔ Veterans benefits
✔ Child support and other lawful income sources

Housing discrimination is illegal.
