This week we would like to spotlight Carmen for her continued support at the OLC, her wealth of knowledge both with animals and the world, and her compassion for all living things. We absolutely could not do all that we do without Carmen's, mostly, behind the scenes work. Thank you Carmen!

When asked what her favorite part about volunteering at the OLC is, Carmen responded, "The birds, and the people I get to volunteer with."

Picture: Carmen and her pup, Lucy, enjoying the sun.

That’s a wrap! Tuesday was our last trip to Lake Coeur d’Alene with fourth graders. The bald eagles were very active this year. The students enjoyed watching the eagles flying over our heads, swooping to catch fish, and eating fish while perching in nearby trees. 🦅🐟🌲

Thank you Spokane Valley High School Environmental Science classes for joining us Tuesday!

Did you know that today is National Gingerbread House Day?

We are building our own version of gingerbread houses here at the OLC. We would love for you to build a gingerbread house and send us a picture.

We are each putting our own spin on our houses. Be creative with your house and have fun!

We will post our finished product pictures on Monday, December 18th. If you send us a picture of your house by December 18th, you will have the chance to win an OLC T-shirt. We will choose the most creative design. Good luck!

It was a great day of eagle watching in Coeur d’Alene. 🦅

Bald eagles are migrating through the area, but they make a lengthy pit stop to feast on the spawning salmon. 🐟

Thank you Orchard Center Elementary fourth graders for joining us and braving the chilly weather! 🥶☀️

This week we would like to spotlight Ashley for her raptor knowledge, attention to detail while caring for all the animals, and big heart. Ashley is a huge asset to all of us, and we are so happy she is part of our team. Thank you Ashley!

Picture: Ashley is holding a female, hatch-year Golden Eagle who was weighed, had blood samples drawn, was banded, and is being released. Ashley works with a non-profit called RaptorView Research Institute . During fall migration, biologists count and trap migrating raptors at the Continental Divide at Rogers Pass in Montana.

The Environmental Science classes at Spokane Valley High School spent the last two mornings teaching West Valley second graders about watersheds with an interactive activity.

The high school students did an amazing job preparing for the lesson, teaching the material, and captivating their audience. The second graders enjoyed the activity and spending time with older students. It was a great experience for everyone!
