Women's Self-Defense Workshop
On Friday, November 22, 2019 from 9 to 11 am in the small gym in the Johnson Sports Center the Office of Campus Safety will be hosting a Women’s Self-Defense course taught by Spokane County Sheriff Deputy Chris Johnston.
The class is open to ladies 14 years or older. Pre-registration is not required.
Participation in this 2-hour course will help to prepare you in identifying danger, countering a physical attack or confrontation, and effecting an escape. We will discuss proper stance and body positioning, the best way to employ hand, foot, and elbow strikes, using verbals, and also using counter-joint techniques to break free from a wrist or hair hold. We will also learn the basics of compliance, non-compliance, what to do if the attacker is armed, and the psychology of an attacker.
Participants should be free from pre-existing physical injuries and will be required to sign a waiver of liability at the beginning of class. Attire is workout or gym clothes, with athletic shoes. Water/beverages can be brought as well.
