Based on the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, the Doctoral Program in Leadership Studies (DPLS) creates a space where critical thought and moral conviction meet the questions of humanity. For more than 20 years the program has promoted academic excellence and facilitated the strengthening of conceptual, scholarly, and professional competencies for use in leadership roles that serve

others. degree program is designed for working professionals and welcomes students across a broad range of professions, including education, health care, social services, church, government, law enforcement, and business. Faculty, staff, and students work together to develop and sustain a learning community in which all members can nurture the personal qualities of self-knowledge, self-acceptance, a restless curiosity, a desire for truth, a mature concern for others, respect for human diversity and individuality, as well as a thirst for justice. With well over 300 graduates, the Doctoral Program in Leadership Studies has achieved national stature and international reach. The faculty come from diverse backgrounds and lend the program a rich experience base. Students of the program also represent a broad range of professions and cultures. Most recently the program has welcomed students from Afghanistan, Canada, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, as well as from the Spokane Native American Nation and several other indigenous nations of the Pacific Northwest.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday for the Graduate Program Virtual Orientation! We welcomed 70 recently accepted students and spent the morning together learning about the available resources available to support them during their program and beyond.

Congratulations to Dr. Shann R. Ferch and Dr. Dũng Q. Trần as they concluded their sabbatical year by conducting an interview with Gonzaga University President Dr. Katia Passerini about her leadership journey and the servant-leadership principles that animate Jesuit Catholic higher education.

The conversation with Dr. Passerini will be jointly published in the 20th Anniversary Issue of the International Journal of Servant-Leadership and in Conversations on Jesuit Higher Education.

Following the interview, President Passerini posed for photos with Dr. Ferch, Dr. Trần, and the professional production staff and student workers.

Drs. Ferch and Trần are grateful to Dr. Passerini, the Office of the President, the School of Leadership Studies Dean’s Office, Instructional Design and Delivery, and the editorial leaders of both publications for their encouragement and support.
