🚨 Crime Check Changes Are Coming This October

Beginning in October 2026, who you call for a non-emergency crime will depend on where the incident occurred.

🏙️ INSIDE THE CITY OF SPOKANE:
Call 311. Your non-emergency call will be handled directly by City of Spokane staff.

📞 OUTSIDE THE CITY OF SPOKANE:
It’s business as usual. Call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

Not sure what’s an emergency?

🚨 CALL 911 when there is an immediate threat to life or property, a crime is happening now, or emergency police, fire or medical help is needed.

☎️ NON-EMERGENCY CALLS generally involve situations that are not happening right now and do not pose an immediate danger—for example, reporting a crime that already occurred, property damage or other situations where an immediate emergency response is not needed.

Why is this changing?

This transition is part of the agreement reached in December 2025 between Spokane County, the City of Spokane and SREC as the City works toward establishing its own emergency communications center.

The agreement includes several major milestones:

➡️ October 2026: The City begins handling its own non-emergency calls and reports through 311.

➡️ January 2027: The City begins dispatching its own fire calls.

➡️ January 2028: The City begins answering its own 911 calls.

(Read the press release here: https://www.spokane911.com/uploads/1/4/4/1/144147858/final_emergency_comms_agreement_release_12.18.25.pdf)

For residents outside the City of Spokane, Crime Check will continue to serve as your non-emergency resource.

As we get closer to the October transition, including date specifics, we’ll share more information about what to expect and help make sure you know who to call and when.
