We are committed to helping our students grow. We believe in the power of encouragement, the value of teamwork, and strengthening the connection between health and happiness. The U-D

istrict Foundation Mentoring Program began in October of 2011. We are partners with a number of Title 1 elementary schools in Spokane, Cheney, and the Spokane Valley to help us match the right student with each mentor. We have matched 36 mentors with students in our short history and twenty of those matches are still meeting together, every month. Our mentors range from 25-57 years old. Most are married. About half have children of their own. They are CPA's, business owners, college professors, trainers, attorney's, stay at home moms, and agency administrators. They work in education, advertising, medicine and real estate. The minimum match commitment is for 18 months. The longest of our matches have been together for almost five years. Many others have been together for 3 to 4 years. Our program works! We love to make a major impact in children's lives every day. We have no wait list for children. Once a mentor makes the decision to work with us, we walk him or her through the rigorous intake process and then go to our partner schools. Together with a teacher or counselor we select the best possible student for the mentor bases on interests and backgrounds. One mentor stronger. One Child at a time. It's how we grow.

πŸ“š What an afternoon! Our community came together at Wishing Tree Books for an afternoon full of spikeball, card games, and co****le β€” fueled by delicious pizza donated by South Perry Pizza. The best part? Every single kid got to pick out their very own book thanks to our book fund. This is what community looks like. πŸ•βœ¨

Mentoring is rewarding β€” but it can also feel lonely. We believe no mentor should have to figure it out alone. So we create spaces to gather, reflect, and reconnect with others on the same journey. Yesterday, a mix of newer mentors and mentors who are 3 years in joined us β€” sharing what's changed them, what's challenged them, and the small moments that remind them why they show up. πŸ’›

At the U-District Mentoring Program, we believe one connection has the power to reach far beyond one person. 🀍 When our mentors show up, they don't just build a bond with their mentee β€” they become a part of the whole family.

Just look at these three β€” a mentor, her mentee, and her mentee's sister, showing us exactly what that looks like.

A reminder that mentorship doesn't have to be expensive or elaborate β€” sometimes all it takes is a free afternoon at the library and a little creativity. This match made terrariums together and had an absolute blast doing it. Big impact doesn't require a big budget. 🌿🐚 🐜
