School's Out Food Drive
June 8 - July 10

The Friends of the Spotswood Public Library are collecting snacks, breakfast foods, easy-open lunches and non-perishable food items for Alice's CUP to help children in the community this summer.

Please bring your food donations to the library beginning June 8.

On Thursday we hosted an informative program titled, "Old Glory: The History of the American Flag". Thank you to Kevin Woyce and the Friends of the Spotswood Public Library for bringing the talk to us.

On Friday we were visited by Tony Cohen and Tom DeWolf who stopped by our library to learn more about the local area.

Mr. Cohen is doing a freedom walk on the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, and completing a modern-day retracing of the Underground Railroad to Canada. The 750-mile pilgrimage, following 19th-century routes to freedom, will commemorate the brave self-liberators, the abolitionists, and their secret networks.

Join us on Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 pm to learn about Old Glory: The History of the American Flag.

With original photographs, vintage images, and patriotic music, Kevin Woyce explores the history of the American Flag - from its origin in the Revolution to the addition of our 50th star in 1960. He also explains how a poem about the 1814 Battle of Baltimore - set to a popular English melody - became our national anthem. No registration required.

As the United States gets ready to celebrate its 250th anniversary on July 4, join the Spotswood Public Library for a series of events and activities that will focus on American history and the semiquincentennial celebration.

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday by creating a patriotic bookmark or poster!

Entries will be accepted in four different age groups: Ages 4-7, Ages 8-12, Ages 13-17, and Ages 18+ with one winner per age group.

Each winner will receive a $5.00 gift certificate to Scoop to My Lou. The contest will run from May 11th- June 12th.
